You are correct, BR. It didn't stop Meredith from going to London to co-host "Today" a few weeks ago when the show was on location for the Queen's Jubilee Celebration. There was some head-scratching in media circles when Ann Curry was conspicously absent. Besides, ratings have gone down on the whole since Curry replaced Vieira on "Today".

I would rather Ann Curry over Robin Meed.

NBC News had someone else who would've been better than Ann Curry on "Today". She's Amy Robach, who is now with ABC News. Amy would've been a better choice.

Truth be told, Ann Curry was the news reader on "Today" and was passed over twice when NBC News was in the market for a female co-host on the morning news/talk show, first for Katie Couric & then Meredith Vieira before the network named Ann as Meredith's replacement last year. Ann does absolutely nothing for me, CH.

As for Amy Robach, she & Jenna Wolfe split the weekend "Today" co-host duties the last 5 years with former CBS2 newsman and current "NBC Nightly News" anchor Lester Holt before Amy's own contract with NBC expired about a month ago. Robach had an emotional goodbye a few weeks ago on "Today". Amy's now with ABC News as a National Correspondent based in New York.

My own opinion is that NBC News made a mistake in naming Curry as Vieira's replacement when they had someone not only easier on the eyes but a better replacement in-house with Robach on "Today". In recent weeks, "Today" has been in quite a dogfight with ABC News' "Good Morning America" in the morning news/talk wars. Ratings have actually gone down since Curry became co-host, and there have been weeks where "GMA" has actually beat "Today". That hasn't happened in 16 years.

The Today Show is hot garbage no matter who hosts it. Who wants to start the day by watching a phalanx of screaming idiots being restrained by cops and guardrails? That's supposed to be something you work up to by like 3, 4 in the afternoon. Morning Edition ftw

"Today" has been on the air since 1952, CH. I think they've been broadcasting from the ground floor at Rockefeller Center for I think over a decade now. The show draws quite a crowd regardless if the hosts are out there, or if there's a hot name in concert performing live on the plaza.

The success of "Today" on the whole actually inspired NBC5 to open their own ground-level studio not far from their main home at NBC Tower downtown. I think the big difference is you don't have the screaming idiots at what they call Studio 5 when Daniella Guzman, Stefan Holt & meteorologist Andy Avalos are on the air before "Today" signs on at 7a everyday.

I don't care if the Today Show predates Philo fucking Farnsworth, it's gonna be a cold day before I subject myself to the mind-numbing pap of network morning news.
