He got pulled from the Iowa game after 2 AB's this afternoon.

I would assume Cardenas will be sent down.

Vitters is making them think about calling him up as well. He hit another HR today.

I think he's out of options UMN.

Hoping any of the Baker/Mather poo poo platter is DFA'd or Released

I did just read that it could be Baker as he isn't very good and he won't be needed to play 1st anymore. Mather is better defensively at multiple positions.

He should have at least 30 homeruns the rest of this season

No, he hasn't, because the Cubs have not made a roster move.

The roster move will be made tomorrow but he is en route to Wrigley.

Is this the thread we make our Rizzo predictions for this year and then pull it up in October to ridicule each other for being overly optimistic/pessimistic?

Cardenas has two options left after a bit of annoying research. So that's a likely possibility.

Its half a season against MLB pitching. Yes he put great numbers in Iowa but that was against AAA pitching (which is some cases is worse than AA pitching). 12-14 HRs with 40-45 RBI would be fine for him. Keep in mind that while numbers like that may not seem that good just looking at them, the Cubs are a woeful offensive team, and if he ended up hitting 27-32 HRs with 90-100 RBI in a full season fans should be very happy with that.

He should at least approach 70 homeruns next year

Rizzo won't even have the career that Joe Pepitone had.

Okay, why not? I'll throw a rest of the year prediction out. Caveat to adjust this before his first AB tomorrow if i start to feel more optimistic

I prefer to stick to comparisons to other first basemen. In a 750 run environment the value of a slick-fielding middle infielder undoubtedly goes up.

That sounds obtainable and I would be happy with it....its also damn close to what LaHair has done the first half only hitting off right hand pitching.

Let's say he was up with the Cubs from day 1. If they win 72 games this season, is it that much better than winning 65 games?

Wait a minute. You think they are going to win 65 games this year.

Really? This is a rookie working his way into a new situation mid season. Some perform well but many don't. I would expect him to be bad early and have a great September

I own Joe Pepitone's bat! One of them.

.322 in honor of Bill Buckner
18 HRs in honor of Scot Thompson
69 RBIs in honor of...nevermind

Courtesy of Cubs Den June 25th:

■The offense today was provided by Josh Vitters who hit his 12th HR, which was launched into the parking lot, and also drove in Alfredo Amezaga, who doubled, with a single. Vitters has a robust .834 OPS. The walk rate still isn't there, but if he's hitting .290 and slugs close to .500, should we really be all that worried. Vitters has supplemented his bat with enough walks to put him at a .340+ OPS. If he can repeat that in the majors, I'll do cartwheels. Since a pedestrian April, Vitters has hit .301 and slugged .558 with 12 HRs.

■CF Matt Szczur went 3 for 8 with 2 walks on the day. He doubled, had an RBI, and scored a run. Szczur already has a career high in walks with 29. He has a .373 OBP to go with his much improved .274 batting average. He's slugging .378, giving him a .751 OPS on the year. You have to start wondering when Szczur might start getting consideration for a promotion to AA. His age and improved approach are both factors in his favor, as is the fact that he's about 80 PAs away from 500 total PAs at Daytona.

Daytona is minor league hell for the players. I wish they would move their High A team to the West Coast.

Why? What difference does it make where the team is located?

It shouldn't matter but I would rather the players play in a better atmosphere and be closer to either the Spring training facility or the major league club.

Vitters now hitting over .300 for the season in AAA. Vogelbach, recent draft pick, finally starting to rake in AZL and looks ready to be sent to Boise.
