the only thing i wonder is why san diego would let rizzo, the crown jewel of their adrian gonzalez package, go for a veritable song within a year of trading for him in the first place. what could they have seen that said "ok this kid is bollocks let's go get that cubs farmhand we always needed" maybe they got "the call" from MLB like "the cubs need an anchor to sell $25-30 jerseyshirts outside of wrigley field and you're trading mike rizzo to them" -- that'd make the most sense to me =D

right. i know that rizzo failed, but as you say.... they got two "decent' prospects and traded a guy who is already putting a lot of shirts out there for sale. there's expectations for this kid to be the crown jewel of the adrian gonzalez trade, and to me, it's weird that a team so starved for offense like san diego would give up on him WITHIN A YEAR. maybe they've got a lot of faith in kyle blanks? who knows?

They traded with the Reds for Yonder Alonso who was a more highly touted 1B prospect. There was no room for Rizzo after that trade.
