So LaRussa thinks LaHair is a good player? But Sveum, thinks he sucks.

Bit surprised by LaHair. Goldschmidt would seem to have better overall numbers and is playing for a winning team.

Sure. But it's not like picking Matt Wieters.

LaHair has good enough numbers.

Good for LaHair, don't know if he really deserved it, but I'm glad he is going. Seems like a good guy.

Did they amend the rule to stipulate each team must have two all stars or something?

Adam Dunn made it, so, perhaps that is the case.

Soriano could have been chosen as well, but there are more worthy candidates amongst the outfielders. LaHair was chosen more due to the lack of good candidates at 1st base. With Fielder and Puljols going to the A.L. there were few real candidates at 1st base in the N.L. He does seem like a good guy and a good team guy. Never bitched about Rizzo taking over at 1st. Just moved to the outfield and said all the right things. I honestly thought Castro would be the only guy to make it this year from the Cubs.

LaHair is not an All Star caliber player but good for him.

Now sell high please.

Exactly.

First thing that came to my mind... does this get us a better prospect?

I doubt it, I think other teams realize that he's a decent player, and has some value as a left handed bat, but I doubt he can be flipped for much more than a mid-level prospect.

The prospects the Cubs would likely get for LaHair would not be more valuable than LaHair to the team. If they had Jackson ready to be called up now, a trade would make sense, just to clear up a spot. But they have nobody really ready at this point, so keeping LaHair makes more sense. Hopefully he gets back on track after some adjustments. But whatever they would get in a trade would probably be uncertain to even make the major leagues and unlikely to ever be anything special.
