When we were at Two Brothers in Warrenville, it was brought up over a few pints of Cane & Ebel and Resistance. I believe he said he rooted for both...or something similar to that.

Speeps uses Frankie C's definition of 'quote.'

So then you agree he is a great example of a Sox fan who doesn't dislike the Cubs?

I think it's a great example since IMU thought he was a Cub fan.

What IMU thinks does not change anything.

Look at Chus posting history. I would guess he's posted more anti cubs pics than anyone on this board.

Not that there's anything wrong with that or Sports Hate in general.

 @ the arrogance of Cub fans.

If you root for the Sox and hate the Cubs - you are a Sox fan.

If you root for the Sox and don't hate the Cubs - you are a fan of both teams.

Got it.

Nope, this is impossible. You can only root for two teams if they are in different conferences and even then, one is your 'true' team.

If you root for the Vikings just the same as the Bears, you have absolutely no room to say anything about a Cubs hater.

Wrong. I do it easily.

How can you like two teams in the same division equally? I would hazard a guess you arent much of a football fan maybe?? That can be the only explanation. It would be akin to saying you like the Cubs and Cardinals equally.

IMU is just bad at being a fan of things or judging other fans. It's ok. He's not good at a lot of things.

That is weak. You can like one or the other and not mind the rivals but you cant like two rivals at the same time. I dont really care one way or another about the Lions. I wouldnt say I am a Lions fan though.

I've never read or known that until now.

I agree with Hank and BRick, pretty spineless. Instead of "warming up to the Bears" it sounds like you got sick of taking shit for being a Vikings fan growing up. That's part of sports, man. If you like the Vikes you do. FF Likes the Packers, he didn't waffle during the whole Farve thing. He stuck with his team.

Like Hank, I really don't give a shit about the Lions...or the Royals, but certainly wouldn't be rooting for them against the Bears and White Sox respectively. Its one thing to like 2 teams in the same sport. But to "equally" root for divisional rivals is....well, pretty fucked up. I could never, ever see myself cheering for the Packers or Vikings unless they needed to win to have the Bears make the playoffs.

IMU you can root for whoever you damn well please. That is not the issue here.

If you can't see why a lot of the people here-- on the Chicago Sports Fan Message Board-- find the fact that you "equally" root for the Bears and Vikings appalling, I cannot help you.

YOu can root for any team you like. I guess I just dont get what the point of being a fan is if you can change allegiances when one team is better. Why root for only 2 teams, whomever is leading the division at the time can be one of your equal favorites. That isnt a fan in my book and most every other person over the age of 10.

On any message board they would laugh at that. You can't equally be a fan of the two. If they played in the NFC championship game whoever you want to win is who you are a fan of.

Never said you "warmed up to the Bears" and rooted for them "when they had a chance at a better season." You seriously can't see how spineless that sounds? You aren't a true fan if that's the case, not a true Bears fan anyway. If you are going to be a Bears fan you have to take the good with the bad. Not take the bad and then jump ship to Minneapolis.

Pathetic.

I'm not changing allegiances. I'm a fan of both, always. I'm not changing allegiances when they go head to head. I get to see a fantastic game between divisional opponents. I would prefer whichever team is likely playoff-bound to win though, because the last thing I want is the teams to beat up on each other and allow the Packers and Lions to make the playoffs.

You said you were a Vikes fan until about 7-8 years ago. That would be right around the time the Bears were making a run to the Super Bowl. Sounds like that is changing allegiances to the hot team.

WYC?

That is exactly what he did. That was 2006, so he was probably right on the verge of being 21 then, so it was cool to like the Bears because everybody was partying with the Bears on Sundays.

Put on a Bears shirt and party! Yay Bear Down! Who cares about my team, the parties are great!
Funny how that is what the Sox fans hate about the Cubs and Wrigleyville....

At least Cubs and Sox fans don't jump ship when their team is bad.

He's just digging himself a deeper hole here.

Looks like his football opinions can be ignored now.

No, you seem to have trouble with math. You said you warmed up to the Bears "7 or 8 years ago"

7 years ago they were 11-5 with the best defense in the NFL and the #2 seed in the NFC playoffs.
No coincidence I'm sure....

It's ok Frank. You can't expect non-Bears fans to recall that kind of info off the top of their head.
