He has finally run out of Ozzie/KW/Reisdorf/Hawk stories and now begins his professional era of focus on the Cubs. Starlin Castro is underappreciated? By who? I hope you enjoy his non stories as much as Sox fans did.

He really wrote this? If anything Castro has been overrated by Cubs fans up until this year. I'm not sure why Cowley still has a job in this town.

Didn't realize Cubs fans were in charge of "rating". And...."up until this year"......you sound like the asshat sox fan you are...The guy has played a little over 2 seasons of MLB. Dumbass.

And who has UNDERRATED Castro? Anybody? That's my point, you buffoon. If there is any 'rating' be done to Castro, its being overrated which is why Cowley's article is so stupid. Maybe you should just stick to sucking Jerry Jones's cock and forget about baseball for a while there.

Castro strikes me as one of the rare Chicago athletes thats rated fairly accurately, at least on this board.

My thoughts as well.

Can we all agree that Joe Cowley sucks and that NotJoeCowley is great?

IMU really makes Cub fans look foolish.

At the next meeting of the White Sox fans I will suggest a resolution to not count his over the top thoughts about every young Cub player against the rest of Cubbie nation.

Huh?

It is more likely to say that up until this year-- which is what I originally said-- Castro was more like to be have been overrated rather than underrated.

I think a lot of his Catro stuff is hyperbolic

Correctly rated. It seems your fallback position is "Cub fans overrate _____"

It would not shock me if Theo traded Castro at the deadline.

It was funny to watch them double team him on-air. Cowley was getting pissed off. Worth listening
on podcast if anyone missed it.

It just seems like every young Cubs player is either going to be great or just needs a chance and will be great if given a chance.

It's not just Castro. JORR has been destroying his thoughts on lots of players lately.

No. My statement was that nobody was underrating him. If anything, he has been overrated (see IMU). Even if he was correctly rated, still nobody underrating him.

Ok.

I think I could make a case that he's underrated.

I mean in the way that Hitter dont usually come up hitting .300 right away and not having any prolonged struggles. I guess you can say the fans concentrate too much on the negative with him.

Cowley's word was underappreciated not underrated. I don't think he could make a case for underappreciated either with the cheers, shirt sales and lack of benching after key mental mistakes.

just to stir it myself a little, do you think its negative for fans to be underwhelmed by a below average defensive player playing a defense first position...do you think his offensive numbers are sufficiently astounding to balance his defense

Probably not because he plays such an important position. But its just so rare a player comes up and hits and doesnt stop, like he has.

Can we at least all agree that his ceiling is Honus Wagner and his floor is Derek Jeter?

I think he has a chance to be better defensively than Jeter.

Well yeah and certainly a better hitter than Wagner.

The only thing that matters is if he can hit the illustrious 1800 G mark.

Best I ever saw at playing 1,800 major league games? ... Shawon Dunston.

So Frank has been monitoring the long term Cubs rating system ? When up until THIS YEAR we all got together and correctly rated him?

So Frank, how should we have rated the kid who played 264 minor games from the time he was 17-20, he hit for average at every level and was promoted to Starting SS at age 20, 30 games into the season. Did the overrating began then?

And how far did we over rate him?

Or was it year 2? When he batted .307, stole 22 Bases and had a nice .340 OBP, for a 21 year old starting SS. Yes, he needed to work on his 29 errors, but still wondering ...was this the year we over rated him?

So was it 2010, when he came from nowhere or was it 2011? Because Frank, these are his only 2 year "prior to this year" that us Cub fans could have overrated him.
