I was robbed of a perfect game in backyard whiffleball one time...on the last out, I thought my brother made the catch but he said he trapped it...ended up with a two hitter...

...bullshit...that game was better than all these.

Quiz Question:

Who is this Hall of Fame player who miraculously saved the perfect game with this catch and hit a home run for the first run of the game?

Prize to be determined.

Bernie Williams...

I believe it more difficult to strikeout 20+ batters than throw a no-hitter at any level above junior high.

I have a simple question.

When a pitcher goes out to the mound for each inning is his ultimate goal to:
1) Stop all 3 batters from reaching base.
2) Strike out two of them.

Here is a hint. Even with bad knees, he could practically defeat a cheetah in a race.

Just like Cubs fans to celebrate a start where a guy gave up a hit and hit a guy.

no hitter vs. no hitter with 21 strikeouts = TIE per the CSFMB.

I don't think anyone thinks that.

People have brought up no hitters, but the real discussion is perfect games. You can technically lose on a no hitter. I know of no way you can lose with a perfect game, unless of course you find a way to forfeit.

I agree with Frank Costanza - any perfect game, in my opinion, is superior to Kerry Wood's game.

A 20 strikeout game is much less common than a perfect game. A lot of the perfect games depend on the fielders. With 20 strikeouts Kerry Wood only needed the fielders for 7 outs. A perfect game is something that happens on occasion as long as the umpire gets the out calls right and some of the fielders save an out or two. If I remember correctly the infield hit against was a slow grounder to third. Did anyone even hit the ball out of the infield against Wood?

I have not seen the other 20K games, but Wood's 20K was more dominating than any of the perfect games I've witnessed. The movement on his slider was absolutely unhittable.

Having 3 sacrifice flies in a game is much less common than a perfect game too. Is that better than throwing a perfect game?

On TV right now. Everyone stop what you are doing, watch the whole thing, then come back and continue the argument.

Not according to math guru Bill James.

That's why Rick correctly debunked the Game Score fallacy. It's a Rube Goldberg machine attempting to tell you something you inherently know to not be true.

Who cares. It's an arbitrary system designed to examine various games for comparative purposes. The points assigned to strikeouts might have been to give everything a round number. It allows for any number of narratives, and articles like these are written. We could assign double points for things like hitting a seagull and squirrels running on the field. I'm not sure one system would be any more definitive than another.

Well considering there's been a half dozen multiple page topics on this subject alone...

First "replay" game I've ever watched and WOW.
I thought it woudn't live up to the hype of the greatest game ever pitched and........God was I wrong. More impressive than I remember.

If you think Humber or Buerhle pitched more dominant games:
Your Sox love and Cubs hate is forcing you to say what you know isn't true.

I wish they'd take a Dvd of this game, tape it to 1 of santo's legs and run it up the fucking left field foul pole. Yes it was a great pitched game. Does it have to be brought up 5 times every fucking year?

I know how serious he takes Mickey Sanderson Mantle, this is probably gonna be the greatest prize in the history of the CSFMB, (ir)regardless of who the winner is.
