I'm not sure Dempster will get all that great of a haul. The draft pick compensation for teams losing Free Ajents is gone, so basically all a team is paying for is the few months they have him. I think the days of a team giving up their top pitching prospect for 2 months of Carlos Beltran is gone.

Although, that being said, all it takes is one GM to get itchy.

Dodgers heavy favorites to get Dempster according to Heymen. They don't have much positional depth in their system, but plenty of young arms. Considering the Cubs have roughly .5 starting pitching prospects, I'm sure that's the focus of talks with them.

The focus of all Cubs trade talk with every team for every Cubs player is going to be for pitching prospects.

Both the Red Sox and Yankees are very interested, along with the Dodgers.... A team has to qualify for the post-season, before they worry about how a pitcher may fare in the post-season. Dempster has the ability to help a team get to the post-season. He has THE LOWEST ERA amongst starting pitchers in the national League-now just under 2.00 As far as his past performances in the post-season is concerned, the sample size is too small to draw any real conclusions.....You know nothing about baseball.

For Dempster. Any team is all about Garza though.

agreed, Garza is better and has earned his stripes in the A.L. east.

Dempster LEADS THE LEAGUE in ERA and has a streak of 27 scoreless innings pitched including 7 scoreless innings against The Boston Red Sox. He is in a contract year, so it's no surprise he's having a great season. The last time he was in a contract year was in 2008, when he went 17-6 with a 2.96 ERA. He is in high demand and would be considered a front of the rotation (#2) guy in most rotations. Try discussing a topic you have a better grasp of...

Slow down, he has thrown 86 innings..his era and whip will be right where it should be by the end of the season..just as soon as the innings pile up.

Dempster has value so we will see just how smart the Cubs brass is in maximizing the return on this asset.

The Mets need a catcher. The big Vajay needs to be dealt to them. They are used to burrito latin players anyways after Robby Alomar.

With 6 more shutout innings yesterday VS the Diamondbacks, Dempster has now thrown 33 straight scoreless frames. His ERA is BELOW 2!!!! Would I want to keep him and sign him to an extension?.....HELL NO! But when the guy is in a contract year, he is outstanding. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The guy has the ability to be a top notch pitcher. But he only seems to bring out his best in a contract year. But for a team looking for a very good starter THIS YEAR, he's a great guy to target.

Garza.....They need to deal just because despite his stuff (the best on the staff) he misses on location too often and is nowhere nearly worth the money he will seek on an extension. I will not be surprised if Maholm gets some serious interest near the deadline as well.

You seem to think Wells and Dempster have the same talent.

Really?

For some reason the Red Sox seem to be in on Dempster. They have some interesting prospects but I'm not sure why they would do this. If I were Dempster I would probably invoke my 10 5 to stay away from that clown college of a clubhouse.

Perhaps it was the 7 stellar (shutout) innings he pitched against them. Or maybe it's the 33 straight shutout innings. Or maybe it's the lowest ERA for any starter in Baseball. Not sure....maybe all the above?

It's a shame he's afraid of the AL.

He sucked as a closer .

No he didnt. He was fine. Above average the first year and average the next two.

Youre like Jason Goff. Everyone is a bum if they arent an all star.

Hey I'm just going by what was told to Drinky. Dempster doesn't want to pitch in the AL.

I thought the Sawx were further out of the wild card than they are. It makes much more sense after looking at the standings. It's hard to keep tabs on all the big league happenings when you spend 90 percent of your baseball viewing on MILB chekcing on the Cubs farm system.
