Nobody is arguing that Wood didn't have a great game. There may have been some no hitters that were "better" but I'm talking about perfectos. ell Mark Buerhle faced a really good Texas lineup, walked one guy, picked him off, and faced the minimum # of hitters during his first no no. I think a case could be made that that game might have been better, but I'm not even arguing that much,

In the original post way back when, somebody said Wood's 20K game was the best ever. I replied that "there have been at least 21* games that were better taht Wood's 20K game" (*22, Cain has thrown his perfect game since that post was made). I stand by that statement.

That's reasonable Frank. I also think a reasonable argument can be made that a 20K game is the best individual pitching performance ever. Definitely not a black or white issue as a lot is open to interpretation and personal value of K's, balls in play etc.

It's more difficult to strike a guy out than it is for your shortstop to field a blooper and make the throw to first base.

Real talk....Why does one achievement have to be more impressive than the other....can't they just both be impressive in their own right? Or is that the communism talking again?

Because it does not get any better than a perfect game. It would be like saying that a hitter's MVP season was better than another hitter's triple crown season.

Eh alright I guess. I thought Kerry Wood's game was pretty impressive. I think perfect games are pretty impressive too. I don't need to rank them in order of impressiveness to get to sleep at night. This whole exercise seems like mental masturbation.

So all perfect games are equal in terms of greatness? So Humber and Bradens perfect games are every bit as good as Larsen's?

No, not when one factors in the variable that Don Larsen's perfect game occurred in a World Series game. This has occurred exactly one (1) time in the entire history of Major League baseball.

It should also be noted that Don Larsen's perfect game was against a lineup that fielded four (4) future Hall of Famers - a team that had lucked into a World Series title the year prior.

The correct answer remains:

Do you think Kerry gets in the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame?

Do you view Jordan's 63 against the Celtics as better than Kobe's 81 against the Raptors?

I have no opinion, based primarily upon a lack of interest in the subject.

If someone got a hit off Kerry Wood, that was headed into the bleachers for a HR, if not for the best play of David Weiss's career, yes, I would not say Kerry Wood pitched one of the best games ever,.

They're equal in the sense that they are better than a 20K game. Obviously there is nothing better than a perfect game in the playoffs or WS. That is not the discussion here though. Kerry Wood's 20K can be no better than the 23rd best pitched of all time. Period.

No. All perfect games are better than every other non-perfect game imo. But amongst the subset of perfectos, there are ones better than others.

PHILIP HUMBER > KERRY WOOD!

never mind the baseball happenstance where there's matt abbatacola gork shots that go through for hits, clearly, anyone who has a perfect game is a MUCH BETTER PITCHER than kerry wood. one hit makes the rest of the outing meaningless.... PERFECTION IS PERFECTION! nevermind dwayne wise robbing a HR in buehrle's perfect game, clearly that was so much better than kerry's 20k game!

What if a pitcher threw a perfect game and the game got rained out after the bottom of the 5th?

Wood's 20K game might be better than that.
