That Canadians rumor would be terrible if true. I mean, terrible. Throw in Carey Price and maybe I'd start listening.

Doan would be cool. He's kind of an assbag, but it'd be nice for that guy to be on your own team for once.

Yup.

While I'm not against trading Kane under the RIGHT circumstance, this isn't it. Not that I wouldn't like to have Subban, but a trade of Kane would have to bring a lot more.

He's really not that great. You gotta get suspicious of a guy who's content to hang loose on crappy teams for years and years. See also: Rick Nash

And that trade looks terrible. You can't give up on Kane. There's too much invested in him here. Habs won't give up one of their most popular players, either. Luckily, Jaekel following up on Eklund has about as much validity as a spoon-bender following up on a phrenologist.

I dont understand why the Habs would trade away Plekanec, they have some young Centers coming up, but its not like they're rebuilding, you just dont trade away proven top 2 centers. And I really don't understand why the Hawks would trade away their top playmaker.

Nothing about that rumor makes sense to me.

Did you just compare Shane Doan to Rick Nash?
Really?

Only in the sense that both have profited immensely from being the best of a bad lot for too long.

Nash is one of the top players in.......the world? If a bad team wants to give a brinks truck over several years, it'd be dumb to say no. Two of the biggest teams in the league are deciding how much of their team they want to trade for Nash right now.

Doan isn't one of the top players in his division. Hesgonna get overpaid wherever he ends up

Rick Nash is not one of the best players in the world. Not in 2012 he isn't. He'd be a nice piece to add to a contender, but he's only a franchise player for a franchise that's barely a franchise.

Team Canada disagrees.

Team Canada can lick my sack. Olympic hockey doesn't matter to anyone except Canadians who are restless about English Canada not having won a Cup since 1990. Seriously, the last time anyone gave such a shit about an all-star game was when Pete Rose ran into the catcher.

Imagine Kane in Montreal. He would never be sober, ever.

Yowza, that's crazy. Olympic hockey is awesome and probably top 3 of all Olympic events winter or summer.

I just can't care at all. Canada/USA means nothing to me. Most American players develop in Canada anyway.

Jonathan Bernier doesn’t expect to be a member of the Los Angeles Kings for much longer, according to TVA Sports reporter L.A. Lariviere.

In fact, the 23-year-old goalie reportedly asked to be traded before the deadline, but the Kings refused.

Bernier then spent the entire playoffs on the bench watching Jonathan Quick win the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Quick then signed a 10-year contract extension, all but ensuring Bernier, the 11th overall pick in the 2006 draft, would be moving on.

If it’s true that Bernier asked to be dealt at the deadline, it’s no surprise the club said no. At the time, Quick only had a year left on his contract, after which he could become an unrestricted free agent. For the Kings, trading Bernier then watching Quick walk away next summer would’ve been the worst-case scenario.

The challenge for the Kings now is to maximize Bernier’s trade value. His numbers in 2011-12 were passable – a 5-6-2 record with a .909 save percentage — but not great.

It could be argued GM Dean Lombardi would be better off keeping Bernier in a backup role in hopes those numbers improve.

According to Lariviere, however, Bernier expects to be traded close to training camp and “preferably close to home.”

Bernier is spending the day showing off the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Laval, Quebec, which is just north of Montreal. If he wants to be traded close to home, hopefully somebody told him Carey Price just signed a big contract with the Canadiens.

Bernier was a highly touted goalie prospect picked in the 1st round who's rightfully being blocked by Quick. Blackhawks have an ample supply of prospects in their pipeline to explore a deal. I wonder what Lombardi's asking price for Bernier would be.

From the Blackhawks? Probably Saad and a 1st to start. Lombardi is one of those crusty hockey lifers who won't work with that Jon McCub interloper.

He's not afraid to trade away prospects, but I always remember him trying to get established players, now that the farm has been lessened after the Richards and Penner trades, he's probably gonna want to re-stock.

Bernier is going to be great, don't let the numbers fool you, he might eventually be better than Quick... Before this season there were serious debates as to which goalie to keep long-term.

I saw a rumor that Matt Duchene might be out in Colorado with all of their rising centers, that's who the Hawks should target with all their might.

With three solid centermen in the Avalanche lineup, the Denver Post reports one of them could be used as trade bait to bring in a goal-scoring winger.

Though the Avs have entertain calls for Paul Stastny in the past, his $6.6 million salary makes him difficult to trade, as teams would want to include a high-salary player as part of a package.

With Stastny, Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly up the middle, the Post claims Duchene makes the most sense for Colorado to trade.
While a trade is not imminent, the Post suggests the Avalanche could go after Columbus Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash or Anaheim Ducks sniper Bobby Ryan.

Nash, however, has a no-trade clause and Colorado isn't on his list of preferred teams in which he would accept a move to.

Ryan, however, can be dealt freely, without his consent, and the Ducks are in the market for a center.

Duchene, 21, recently signed a new two-year, $7 million contract.

That may be the case, but isn't Lombardi a big Tallon nuthugger, too? We can't make trades with the Sharks because Doug Wilson hates the Blackhawks for what they did to Gramps.

I'd be lying if I told you that I knew anything about the inner-working politics of the gm brotherhood...

Hockey needs more number-crunching nerds in its GM ranks like baseball and basketball. The NHL is like what would happen if everyone's GM were Hawk Harrelson.

Characterization of Lombardi is dead on. Unfortunatey for Bernier he is stuck in LA until a team meets Lombardi's likely high demands. Currently I would think the market for him is pretty small since the Lightning traded for Linback, Jackets for Bobrovsky and Devils resigned Brodeur. A mid-season trade would make much more sense as one or even both those teams might join the Hawks, Leafs, etc looking for a long-term goaltending solution. Even if he isn't traded Lombardi has the upper hand as he'll be a RFA after this season, and depending on how RFA compensation is negotiated in the new CBA he'll either get a haul of picks from a team offer sheeting Bernier or a trade. What a nice asset to have for the SC champs.

The best atavistic idiot of them all is Brian Burke, who crashed that MIT sports convention just to be like "yeah, I use stats...NOT!" The Toronto Maple Leafs have finished 13th, 10th, 15th, and 12th under his watchful eye and undone tie.

But he did have the vision to go get Kris Versteeg. I think that was just so he could win rap battles though.

To be fair, he was handed quite the pile of shit. Though he made it a lot worse by believing the signing/trade of RFA Phil Kessel paired with truculence of Mike Komisarek and Colton Orr would quickly reverse the Leafs suckitude.

Versteeg got $9,250,000 for one 50-point season. This is why "players loved Dale Tallon."

Hawks talked Bolland for Luongo via ProHockeyTalk from The Province in Vancouver:

Quote:
They even reportedly dangled one of Vancouver’s arch-enemies, Dave Bolland, to the crew over at Rogers Arena. Now, that would take some getting used to, both for fans and players.

Bolland in the same locker-room as the Sedins? You could probably put their first handshake on PPV. Luongo with Patrick Kane? File it under ‘we’d have to see it to believe it’.

I wonder how serious talks actually got. If the trade was Bolland for Luongo I'd definitely hate it. While the Hawks would win the trade based on talent the Luongo contract is such an albatross and would hinder the Hawks' financial flexibility. Really, I'd wouldn't like any trade for Luongo as incorporating his contract into the Hawks salary structure is risky as hell. The Hawks should wait and see if Crawford is the real deal this year and, if not, they could possibly negotiate a trade for Bernier or Kiprusoff(If Feaster wakes the fuck up and realizes a rebuild is needed which is highly unlikely). Or they could wait until next off-season and see if they could strike a short-term ring-chaser type of deal with Niklas Backstrom or Tim Thomas.

Bolland's got a tough cap hit, but he's not bad money, Vancouver would make that trade in a heartbeat if it were proposed; if you were doing something like that you have to ask for a high prospect in return to justify trading away a good piece for such bad money...

Kiprusoff is a few seasons away from being taken out back and shot... Although with goalies you never really know...
