I hated this movie 20 years ago, too.

The movie is good if you subtract Kevin Costner.

In terms of Kevin Costner sports movies, it goes:

Bull Durham
Tin Cup
Breaking Away
For the Love of the Game
The movie where he played a serial killer
Thirteen Days
Field of Dreams

His best work was No Way Out where he played a Navy officer secretly trained by the Russians from birth who is having an affair with the Secretary of Defense's paramour.

I went to some Caves nearby and figured I should go while I was there. My children pissed all over my moment but I was still glad I went.

Field of Dreams is great. The Natural has a better "having a catch" last scene.

I read both books in high school before seeing either movie and I loved the books.

Its a great movie, one of the few that is even better than the book, but that line is one of the worst written lines in the history of cinema and STILL bothers me all these years later.

No one in the history of humankind has ever said "do you wanna have a catch". You PLAY catch, you don't have a catch.

To this day that line sounds like nails on a chalkboard everytime I hear it and when giving this movie a final grade, leads to a half star deduction just for that stupid line.

I agree 100%. I tried watching a few minutes of it a month ago, and couldn't stand it.

I just showed my son the Natural. I love it. Major League, great. For the love of the game, ok sometimes. I even get into the Sand Lot.

Agreed. I was watching it this weekend and said the same exact thing. It makes it sound like either an woman or immigrant wrote the screenplay.

Pretty sure we always played catched in the back yards as kids...don't recall anyone ever asking if I wanted to have a catch...

...that said, I actually like the way he says it...something about "wanna have a catch" sounds more sincere than "playing"...

It's a fucking movie about ghosts appearing from nowhere to play baseball. Who cares how he asks his Dad to throw a baseball around.

If somebody other than Kevin Costner played Ray Kinsella, people would put this up as one of the greatest sports movies of all time.

I like Kevin Costner. Hell I even liked Waterworld for some reason.

Field of Dreams is a boring piece of shit. PASS.

It is put up as one of the greatest sports movies of all times.

As oppposed to the direct-to-VHS sequel, Field of Dreams II: Ray Really Let Himself Go starring John Candy.

"Catch" as the object implies one throw. "Game of catch" or "round of catch" maybe.

Have a catch is weird.

Wrong, this movie blows. It would have blown if the greatest actors of all time were cast in it.
