Format change to a new female-friendly Adult Hits format.

Didn't 105.9 try this before?

How much Melissa Ethridge can one station crank out in an hour?

They also own the Q87.7 station. Why not just move that back to the 101.1 frequency?

Because that would make sense. Keep in mind the dude that runs Merlin Media was canned from the Tribune company for being creepy or something. And it takes a lot to get fired from there for being creepy...see Sullivan, Paul.

What will Larz say now? He defended this station for the past year.

You guys need to give this station time. They are just figuring things out.

Just wait until they start to promote the station, and the ratings will go up.

He was as close to blowing Randy Michaels in print as you can get.

Sounds like it might work with the chicks. Does this town need another women-oriented station that only gets played in offices and on hold? I heard the FM news once or twice and it blew. They repeated stories every 10 minutes. I can't believe anyone listened to it. "this is the longest newscast I ever heard. I will give them just 10 more minutes to get back to the music..."

Yeah, that was pathetic. Probably just angling for a job.

Their "promotion" made no sense when they got around to it, that whole "Rod Blagojevich can't listen to us" thing. Edgy for the sake of edgy, except nothing could be more edgeless than a lobotomized WBBM. Well, now we can try Fresh FM again!

From the Larz article:
Quote:
Chicago staffers told yesterday of this morning's meeting were informed that Merlin Media CEO Randy Michaels wished to speak to them at this event. However, Michaels never showed up. Instead, a different representative from the company informed everybody there of the NY & Chicago stations' flips and of their own fate.

Yeah, Randy Michaels is one of the biggest shitheels in radio. His defenders are like "no one loves radio more than him, he knows everything, he can tell you about every station in America, all you have to do is name one." Okay, but he's fucking awful at running them in any market bigger than bumfucking Cincinnati.

I saw another post on his site today. He reported yesterday that there was a meeting scheduled at 9:00 AM with the station's staff and that there was good news to share with the staff.
After someone asked him today what the good news was, his response was "Well, they had good news to share, but the people in charge decided to take the station in a different direction".

Sometime Larz's defense of radio execs is comical.

On the message board, there's a post from a disgruntled Score Search contestant, addressed to Mitch Rosen. Best part:

Quote:
We also have Michael Ramos who was given the task of speaking about the Chicago Cubs, but spent more time talking about his love and passion for the White Sox.

I'm surprised he didn't win the whole thing right then and there!

The answer is yes. Before 105.9 FM started simulcasting WBBM Newsradio 780 AM's all-news format, the former WCKG & CBS Radio tried to "Fresh"-en their format, complete with the call letters WCFS, and there were countless promos on both radio & TV for that adult contemporary station. Just like its predecessor, "Fresh 105.9" was a ratings dud and was yanked a year ago next month. What 101.1 FM will be doing won't work either.

SHARK, what is your recommended course of action for 101.1? Mancow?

As I recall, Fresh did okay for a while before they slipped into format rot and became indistinguishable from TMX. The best solution would be to do what WCBS-FM did with Jack (and 104.3 to a lesser extent), which was to forget the whole thing ever happened and go back to what they were doing before. Move the Q station back to 101.1 and do who-the-hell-cares with the end of the dial.

What was wrong with what 101.1 had before going all-news? Alternative rock was quite popular on that station for many, many years...They fixed what wasn't broken.

I don't know about that one. Q101 was kinda broken at the end there. They weren't programming it very well. Lot of crappy bands. Maybe it's gotten more focused down at 87.7, I dunno, but we don't need Staind or Linkin Park on the fair public airwaves.

SHARK, your solution is not good enough. There is a reason they changed. Now be creative and come up with something. Maybe they could have midget karaoke.

The reason they changed is because of new ownership, Denis, and from the same Randy Michaels that tried awfully hard to ruin 720 WGN Radio, complete with a convicted ex-City Treasurer in Jim Laski as one of the hosts not that long ago.

You're forgetting the key to the demographic. Post menopausal white women.

It's ratings gold!!!

Ok since you still will come up with something different, I'll throw this out there. How about we have that guy who say the Andres Nocioni song do that every day? He could make up songs about famous people and then play them acoustic style. When that runs dry after about a week, he could then host contests of listeners trying the same thing. That should work for a month or so.

SHARK, I've given you two other opportunities to increase their listener base. Here is your third and final chance. What would you do?

If you do a nice job, you can have the Boston stalker as your reward. CHOMP!
