Lovely.

Why are you having such trouble grasping this?

The word Monday on its own merits is not inherently racist. But when applied in a certain context, it becomes so...just like many other slurs.

Is "homo" a slur? If so, I am sorry for calling Pettitte a homo.

Sorry. Do you have a straight slur I can use for Pettitte?

Wouldn't make sense. That'd be like calling Tiger Woods a gay slur.

Dude, shut the fuck up. You've been beaten over the head with logic as to why Crawford (rightfully) found this to be offensive. If he was a Royal, you wouldn't have thought twice about this story. However, he happens to be a Red Sox, which is 100% why you are "refusing" to grasp any logic on this. Shut the fuck up.

On the scale of offensive terms, what is worse:

"Monday?" Or "Redskin?"

Yep. Boston would never be racially insensitive towards their athletes.

You realize "coon" wasn't a racially insensitive word either right? Until it was.

Stop using real life incidents as examples! Stop with the logic!

Being racially insensitive to Native Americans and Arabs is still ok in this country, so "Monday" is more offensive than Redskin.

Exactly.

I seem to remember some very animated Bruins fans acting a damn fool a few months ago.

Just embrade it and take away the power of the word. What up my Monday?

Wednesday just sounds white, so that can replace cracker.

That was just the latest incarnation. Everyone knows about how Bill Russell was treated there and how people tried to explain his bitterness over it with "He's just an asshole". The Red Sox were the last baseball team to integrate for a reason. I've heard stories over how certain black Red Sox players were treated there in the past 10-15 years even.

Boston doesn't have a great reputation when it comes to race relations in sports. And deservedly so.

Not news.

That is a bit of a generalization. We may be elitists, but bigoted is a bit of a stretch.

Can somebody please let me know what month or months of the year I cannot say in the presence of black people? Are there certain food groups I should avoid saying because they might offend somebody? What about letters of the alphabet or numbers?

You can say any month or day.

Just dont point and scream "Fuck you ya fucking Monday!!!"

Thank you, Rogers Park Bryan. I believe that you are accurate.

In all seriousness, however, I believe that I may have been premature in my ridicule of Boston Red Sock player Carl Crawford. Even Redskin Greg may be accurate that my eagerness to skewer a Red Sock may have clouded my judgment.

Let me state my official stance. Even though I am from New England, it is my belief that skin pigmentation has nothing at all to do with one's character or intelligence. If a person treats me well and with respect, they will receive the same from me, regardless of their race.

It would appear that I have failed to "walk a mile in the shoes of Carl Crawford," and for this I express my regret.
