Really? I thought it was formed as a self-aware look at the privilege and pretension of the East Coast upperclass juxtaposed against a pastiche of watered down homages to third world cultures.

Both extremely noble begginnings

Being a "music guy" I don't listen to a whole lot of it. I would say that half if not more than half is of the music I listen to is songs that are being practiced, written, recorded, or are one of my friends' projects.
The remainder is the four to five albums that might get a months worth of spins in a year.

So, this just results in a pretty narrow focus of material with little surprises (bands I've never heard or heard of) sprinkled in here and there.

The music is pretty cool...like a sped up version of Isis or Pelican. The vocals are awful though...too screechy.

Fiona just sold out a 2nd show for Lincoln Hall so I doubt that one. Let me know how those shows are though.
I can believe the Mazzy Star one though.

I can't make through the heat to see every band for 3 straight days anyway - I just pick/choose the ones that are best.

You know you'll be there, at least one day.

i'll see
i'm willing to sit through a bunch of stuff i really don't know as long as there's some kind of payoff, i.e. at least one band i really like
so far spiritualized is about it....i would hope they're headlining or at least not playing during the day , that would be kind of bad

Olivia Tremor Control, pretty good Elephant 6 band. They played Wicker Park fest about 7 years ago. Surprisingly fun live show.

GY!BE played the Abbey with Black Dice opening once up on a time. After Black Dice got done with their cacaophony of discordant dissonance on the Abbey's house sound system. Godspeed comes out and a few people are putting in ear plugs. Godspeed starts out with their quiet to loud thing and at the end of the first song (in maybe a 6 songs per hour concert), the front rows clear as they push their own soundsystem they brought with them as loud as it could be tolerated in that venue.

Super Furry Animals also brought in their own sound for the Abbey, But that was more for the surround sound aspect than the desire to sonically crack ribs.

That's because you're old.

If they got an act like Nelly they could probably justify charging admission to see this show.

The rest of the lineup was announced this week. If Vampire Weekend could just find a way to come down with a nasty band-wide flu right before the fest, this would be a great weekend:

New acts announced:

Beach House
Wild Flag
Real Estate
Atlas Sound
Big K.R.I.T.
Nicolas Jaar
Cults, Chavez
Ty Segall
Oneohtrix Point Never
Youth Lagoon
Thee Oh Sees
King Krule
Lotus Plaza
Dirty Beaches
Lower Dens
Milk Music
the Psychic Paramount
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Outer Minds
A Lull.

not sure why this gets so much shit for being a hipster thing, it's really the best music fest of that scale i've been to since the original few Lollapaloozas
the ticket price is very reasonable
there is a fairly diverse set of acts....and while of course we all want to see established acts that we already like, i like to see new music and Three Oh Sees and Ty Seagall who only really heard of but hadn't heard any of their music, were really good. Beach House was great.
beer is reasonable......there's plenty of room to move about and plenty of other things to check out aside from the music if you so choose
as long as there's at least a few things on the lineup i'm interested in i plan on going back every year for at least 1 day

The actual percentage of hipsters is probably about 20-25%.
I'm amazed each year by the number of people that are my parent's age.
The weather sucked, but I guess festivals just can't control that like they used to.
Beer is reasonable, but something other than Heineken would be swell.

Saw/heard lots of good music.

Pitchfork is offering 3 day passes to next years fest for 95$
So if you wanna go all in without even knowing who's playing, you can get a pretty solid deal
