Whoops. Uh, that was a "vacated" joke. (But the trade does not seem to have been completed.)

The SCORE's Laurence Holmes, CSNChicago.com's Cubs Insider Patrick Mooney & the Trib's Paul Sullivan are Tweeting that Ryan Dempster is in the Cubs' clubhouse in Pittsburgh right now. Apparently, there is no deal with Dempster & the Braves...

Ryan Dempster has said via his foundation's Twitter account that there is no trade to Atlanta. The guess here is that the reporting is out in front of the technicalities, such as him signing off on it. He controls his situation as he has 10/5 no-trade rights. The Cubs are being quiet on this but it seems like someone around the Braves is putting out word of the deal, and I'm 99-percent sure this thing is going to go down. Dempster could block it, of course, but Theo Epstein has long had an understanding of where Dempster wanted to go, and Atlanta was high on that list, if not at the very top. It could be finalized in the next 30 minutes, the next few hours or maybe tomorrow but this is much more than a rumor.

That is something to consider. The 10/5 no-trade rights.

According to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, the Cubs & Braves had agreed on a Ryan Dempster deal, but also feels that Dempster's own Twitter post suggests that Ryan might have used his 10/5 rights to put the breaks on the trade.

That is a dick move if he did block the trade. He has said all year he wouldn't block a trade and this one makes the Cubs a ton better for the future. WTF??!!!!!

But he is such a great guy, he probably just wants the time to buy a full page newspaper ad.

You'd think a guy who supposedly wants to be back next year would want the team to be better.

He can put on his Captain America costume and fuck off.

I've never liked the guy. Always seemed kind of phony. And his imitations suck.

Colby Lewis of the Rangers is out for the season (elbow) so that just creates another potential trade partner for Garza.

So what's the deal with this Dempster trade? The Braves want him to sign an extension if they give up Delgado? What if he doesn't sign an extension do the Cubs get a lesser prospect? How long of an extension does he have to sign? Did anyone think to run this past Dempster first?? This is an odd request but I guess they have a week to iron it out.

I'm holding out hope that he just wanted to spend one more game in the dugout with the Cubs and will accept the trade after the game.

What if he agrees to the trade but not the extension? Do the Braves still give up Delgado or is it a different prospect?

If the trade Detroit made is any indication, the Braves will still give up Delgado plus some other players as well.

Why is that an indication? The Marlins traded 2 major league players one of which (Infante) is under team control for another year.

Infante is not anything special, Sanchez is in the last year of his deal (and not having as good a year as Dempster) and the Tigers gave up one of the top prospects in baseball, their best catching prospect, and another guy.

Omar Infante is a good player. Jacob Turner is not one of the top prospects in baseball and James McCann is the Tigers top catching prospect (right Hawger).

Amen brother, fuck this clown...he knows if he goes to the AL he will get slapped around and not get near the money next year if he stays on the cubs or in the NL... I just want him gone for good.

The Bravest still are in the National League.

I think.

Yes the braves are..but all this talk of the Tigers or Boston is absurd...this turd wants to be a cub for life, has zero interest in winning anything..just wants to stay here.

A trade will take place, it's just a matter of a day or two probably. The mistake was in letting this leak out to the press. Now if the Atlanta deal is not finalized, it makes it look like someone screwed up. If it's Dempster preferring to go to L.A. and asking the Cubs to try to work out a deal there instead, so be it. Maybe he wants a little extra money to compensate for having to relocate to Atlanta? It will all be worked out shortly.

Yes to the first part. Their fan base is inconsistent. Usually middle of the road attendance always and they should be carpet bombed for the tomahawk chop.

That's not what you called though, Heyman saying this deal is down to 50/50 at this point
