I didn't understand the question.

Is Ryan Dempster Atlanta-bound or isn't he? Baseball Prospectus' Kevin Goldstein follows these messages.

Aren't Brett Myers and Brandon Marshall both bad guys, SHARK? B&B bemoaned the addition of Myers, yet have been well over-the-moon for the Marshall trade. Why is that two different fruits, my underwater friend?

The apples & oranges reference was that they're 2 different athletes. I thought surely that Brandon Marshall was going to sit out the first 4 games after the most recent incident. Shows you how much I know!

Meanwhile, the Ryan Dempster deal to Atlanta appears to be dead, says Joe Sheehan via Twitter. OOPS!

If a culture change is required, it is not just for college sports but for sports in general. Riots, hero worship, overlooking the misdeeds of those who participate, and overinflated importance of something that shouldn't be that meaningful don't happen only at Penn State. Maybe he'll start to figure that out when he does a bunch of broadcasts from Bears training camp.

In fairness, it's not the same thing. Do people take professional sports too seriously sometimes? Sure. But there isn't the kind of cohesive group with pro sports. I'm a Bears fan, but I'm not a Bear. The Penn Staters don't merely identify as Penn State fans -they identify as Nittany Lions. The thing with college sports is it's not just one team in one sport: it's a whole range of programs and a university. Probably, the entire idea notion of having pro-style college sports programs is rotten to the core.

Decent point Matt. I don't care much for college sports, but then again, I don't tell others they shouldn't like it.

I realize Brett Myers and Brandon Marshall are not the same person. Answer my question. Are both players widely known to have a sketchy legal history? Both involved in domestic disputes. Why is it okay to be excited about adding Marshall (disregard the legal history!), yet completely dismiss the addition of Myers because of his pudwackness? I'm not saying they're on the same level, talent wise. That's obviously not the case.

I know Marshall for sure, but I hadn't paid much attention to the one with Myers. I misspoke, guys.

Well, yes, that much is true.

It's funny that they'll slam Myers but spent an entire afternoon lauding the McCaskeys for throwing character out the window and acquiring a BIG NASTY STUD. I mean, Myers is undeniably a complete shitheel, but Marshall is legitimately a bad person. He's a serial abuser of women and basically got Darrent Williams killed. Apparently the boys think that's all A-OK as long as he can beat press coverage and he's willing to be the poster child for mental illness awareness, but to me he's the kind of guy a smart organization would steer clear of simply as a matter of course.

"Dempster doesn't want to discuss the rumor."

Tribune Cubs' writer Paul Sullivan just tweeted that regarding whether Ryan Dempster is staying or going...

This should be the lead story on the Drudge Report, so cutting edge.

I suppose an apples-and-oranges defense of the Marshall stuff might be the idea that since ascending to playing professional football practically requires that you be an unstable fuckup, it's just a matter of which flavors of fuckup you want. Baseball players can be douchebags, but not sociopathically so as a matter of course.

The difference is that it's baseball vs. football. Baseball players (white guys) are expected to be squeaky clean and when they do fucked up shit, it's reprehensible. However, those big dumb black football players are expected to be criminals anyway, so fuck it - just throw it out the window and concentrate on what the big dumb black guy does on the field.

B&B don't realize sometimes how unintentionally racist they are.

What is the difference between me identifying myself as someone who grew up in the Chicago area that roots for the Chicago football team and me identifying myself as someone who went to Purdue and that roots for the Purdue football team?

I may not identify myself as a Bear because I wasn't a Bear. I was, and still am a Boilermaker.

If you went to your average Bears tailgate and your average Penn State tailgate the only difference would be a different jersey being worn.

I heard that. Rodewald was caught in broadcast hell.

Very true assessment, Kid.

JORR was right in his early days where he said Bernstein openly says blacks are better at sports and comes excruciatingly close to saying Whites are smarter.

Now I wish I had added the part about Brian Urlacher being really trashy and dumb.
