"Busses" is the plural of "buss," as it happens.

Get a load of THIS caller! Punishing Penn State makes the rest of the Big Ten "fellow travelers"! No one's gonna wanna play them! This hurts my team! Why oh why must this be my cross to bear? You're hurting Illini recruiting!

Any prick from any place referring to any subject that invokes anything even remotely close to the "it's not fair" argument, as that asswipe caller was, also is added to the bus list.

UNLESS, they can explain away the single, solitary problem I have with the "it's not fair" argument:

What's fair about innocent kids getting raped? Are they not the ones who were, are, and will be treated MOST unfairly now unto forever?

Same shit happened when Knight got fired and would likely happen if Coach K went down.

Has anyone asked Dan on the show or any other avenue specifically to explain exactly why his passion on this is so high?

Pretty sure he answered that in his mailbag last week.

It sounded like that caller wanted the Big Ten to ban Penn State from the conference at least for the lengths of the bowl ban because as he said "no team wants to play Penn State". He started the call saying the Big Ten didn't do enough so I think your characterization here is wrong.

Here you go:

“Why are you still talking about Penn State?” – Godfather

Because it is one of the biggest and most important sports stories ever, and is still developing with every passing day. It matters to people not only because of the actual people and institutions involved, but because of the larger themes on which it touches: reverence of coaches, the cultural power of football in America, and the place of sports in our lives. It is rare that we can begin to grasp the size and historical significance of something while still handling details at a relatively early stage, as is happening at this moment.

But this question is also representative of a bizarre interactive phenomenon in our business, in which many find the need to object to the very subject matter of a given segment, show, news story or column. “Why are you talking about the White Sox?,” “Talk more hockey!!” and “Stop talking about the NBA!” are typical examples. Simply, this makes no sense.

Here’s how it works: we talk about whatever we want, and you either listen or not. I write about whatever I want, and you either click on it or not. I will tweet whatever I want, and you can follow or not. It serves no purpose whatsoever to express displeasure with a topic of discussion, and accomplishes absolutely nothing.

This story will bring little change to the collegiate sports world and has very little impact on the world at large. It's really just an expose of a closed society in an insignificant corner of the country. There are no global lessons to be learned unless you support sexual assault on minors. Everyone already understands the dangers of dictatorial power, even in the hands of a benevolent dictator. They simply choose to allow it to exist if the guy is winning (at whatever he is placed in control). It is odd for Dan to be this myopic

 Hire Big Ten expert Gerry Dinardo. Disagree with Big Ten expert Gerry Dinardo when what he says doesn't agree with the narrative you want. Brilliant radio.

Denardo's pretty retarded today.

Arguing that the "graduate at all costs" culture has changed .... how the flaming fuck does he know? They haven't even started the academic year, let alone finished it, so there's no comparative to utilize.

They fired all the administrators that were involved and the coach who had the power is dead. How could it not have changed?

He's making the statement. New people doesn't mean shit to a tree. If that's the main/only thing one points to as "proof" of a culture change, they are arguing one sorry assed case.

Corollary: A pedo priest gets moved to another parish .... a new one is put in his old parish .... because he's new you're 100% guaranteed that no more priestly pubescent pee-pee play is present?

C'mon. It's better than their usual interactions with "experts."

Hub: Guys, I'm not saying the Bears can't be a Super Bowl team, or even a playoff team. But I've said it all along: when you look at the way this roster is constructed, ehh ehh ehhhhhhhhhhnotenoughspeed, guys! Now compare that to a team like the Miami Dolphins--lemme tell ya, fellas, Jeff Ireland and the gang down there really know how to build a winning football team.

Dan: Wow. Well, that says it all, doesn't it?

Terry: That's why he's our NFL guy, kids.

He's responding to a statement that the culture hasn't changed.

By that logic, it shouldn't even be talked about. We should wait 3 years and see if things are better.

Nothing 100% guarantees culture change.

Give them a 1 year death penalty and tell me those fans in bufu Pennsylvania don't come back as rabid as ever.

I won't believe it.

Correct - I think a lot of these guys (see Dan McNeil) get sick of talking sports on a day to day basis. In McNeil's case, he's now brought music talk (for the most part, from decades ago, but still music). In Bernstein's case, he gets to play his favorite MSNBC host as long he can with this story with coverage of it day after day. I'm sure this will gradually transition into Bears football, but in the summer, he's focused overwhelmingly on this story.

See, you've said this more than once. It's one thing for him to have guilt over being a self-loathing bigot, as he's actually displayed racist tendencies on his show many times over.

But you're basically accusing Bernstein himself of being a pedophile. That's a serious accusation to throw out there dude. Part of me believes you want this to be true. You've said it several times now, and I think it's just a strange thing to throw out there without having anything to back it up with.

I don't think he's made that accusation. More likely would be, say, that he knew a camp counselor who did something bad, and he didn't do enough to stop him.

CH has got it right, and I am just doing my best Beardown impression with wild speculation. I think somewhere in his past an event like this touched his life, no pun intended of course.

I think it's nothing more than Bernstein attempting to diversify himself from talking sports day after day (attempting being the key word).
