I'm not familiar with the book and how much content there is versus Lord of the Rings, but it's my understanding there is less there...so, how does this not go wrong?

It is considerably smaller.

LOTOR is Kid Cairo, The Hobbit is myself.

So fucking stupid. The Hobbit is shorter than The Fellowship of the Ring. Only Hollywood can take a book that shoudl be 1 movie and turn it into 3 and take a series of 3 books that should have been 4 or 5 and make 3 somewhat bad films.

Try to explain how the second movie was any good. They fucked the plot all to hell.

The first and third were OK but nothing special.

I love the source material as well. I have read the books many times, I just dont think they became great movies.

How the hell are they going to make this 3 movies? The book is barely enough source material for 2, much less 1 long one.

Guess this will be another one of those cases where a movie (or series of movies) gets knocked down a notch or two because it doesn't live up to the books it was based on?

I didn't read the books...the movies, standing on their own, were great in my opinion. I'd actually pick the second one if I could only watch one of the three.

If only for Helm's Deep.

OK, understood. On their own they are good movies. I am just a book snob and if you stray too far from the source material, I get pissed about it.

Helm's Deep for example is a case of making a scene cool for the movie and fucking over the source material completely.

I liked the second one best as well.

Gandalf the White, the Riders of Rohan, the Ents and the fall of Saruman, Helm's Deep.

Awesome.

Guys, maybe look into this a bit before you comment on it...

The Hobbit movie trilogy isn't only content from the book itself. There is a lot of "content" in the appendices of LotR that is being used for the movie...important events from the lore like the Necromancer in Mirkwood and such...

Do you want to know how much they mention about the Necromancer in Mirkwood in the Appendices? About 2 paragraphs. It sounds awesome but they dont give you any details.... Now Peter Jackson is going to invent some more stuff to make money. Good for him.

So it's not really "The Hobbit" then.

It's "The Hobbit Plus A Bunch Of Other Ancillary Shit".

I heard the third installment is mostly bloopers and outtakes.

Fair enough - to both of your points.

Yes, Peter Jackson will make up some shit. But I think it is safe to say it probably won't suck.

Turbine made up a bunch of shit with their game...and all-in-all it isn't half bad. Or at least...it wasn't until they turned it into WoW.

I don't trust skinny Peter Jackson. I only trust fat Peter Jackson.

I guess I should be glad he didn't direct a Halo movie after all...

Would have probably turned the first game's story into three movies...I can imagine the second movie now, ending with Guilty Spark telling the sentinels to "save his head...dispose of the rest"

The 3rd one will be a prequel, starring Jar Jar Binks.
