RT @BenBadler Vizcaino has filthy stuff when he's healthy. Has had TJ though and never showed much in the way of durability.

Wow. Brilliant stroke by Theo and Jed to take a chance on Vizcaino after Tommy John. Huge talent. Worth the risk for Maholm/Johnson.

He better be starting everyday. You don't bring a prospect up to sit. LaHair has been awful enough with the bat that he probably needs to stay on the bench.

From Fangraphs in February rankings of Top-15 Braves prospects. Written before he needed TJ-surgery:
Quote:
Vizcaino features the raw stuff to fit right in with those two arms. His fastball can touch the upper 90s and he flashes a plus curveball. The changeup also has the potential to be above-average, which could help him achieve the ceiling of a No. 2 starter if he eventually returns to starting. One concern with Vizcaino is the torn elbow ligament that he suffered in 2010 that was healed through rest and rehab, rather than surgery.

Kudos I guess for calling the arm trouble. Hopefully surgery puts a nail in the coffin to the elbow shit. Looks like a possible shut-down set-up man. I'll take it.

Maybe they can flip LaHair for a decent prospect. He's sucked lately.

I bet they stretch him back out and give him a shot at the rotation.

Bow Tie tweeted that the Cubs are in heavy talks with the Reds about Garza.

Now it's sounding as if Brett Jackson might not be coming up. We will know more tomorrow.

So far I can't complain about any of these moves. Theo's getting prospects for roster filler and cash.

Hearing cheap talk about Soriano being part of whatever Dempster deal may be brewing. All I hear is that Fonzie is an alright cat, but the idea of finally talking about the Bucktoothed Buffoon's service time with the Cubs in the past tense is as tantalizing a prospect as any Theo might get in return.

I call BULLSHIT, on this. Nobody had been more critical of the Soriano signing than me and I wanted him gone prior to this season as much as anyone. But since Svuem convinced Soriano to go to a lighter bat in May, he's been outstanding. He's on pace for 108 RBI and playing far better defense this season to boot. You don't just dump him to get him in the rear-view mirror. If the Cubs have to pick up 80% of his contract or more, they need to get a good prospect in a deal, or just keep him. It's not like they have an abundance of run producers. LaHair has just 9 RBI in the last 2 months.

Does it really matter if the Cubs have an abundance of run producers right now? The biggest defense for keeping Soriano is that he he's not holding back a prospect right now. The offensive production is nice and somewhat unexpected, and may require another team to take back on more money than originally discussed so be happy if the Cubs find a way to move him still.

Yes, I believe we should get rid of Soriano if given the chance

Why move Garza when hurt? Can you still get full value?

Are the Cubs really this desperate to trade for a guy recovering from Tommy John? This looks like a move the Padres, Royals or Pirates would make. It would be different if he were a top prospect coming off a down season but he's had major surgery. Why take such a risk on a guy who will probably end up in the bullpen anyway?

Before the surgery he was one of the Braves 4 Untouchable Pitchers according to Ken Rosenthal

We know how Liriano has performed since his Tommy John surgery. How has Vizcaino performed since his?

He hasn't performed. He is recovering. He could be Mariano Rivera.

I'm willing to part with Paul Maholm to take a 21 year-old kid that has the potential to hit triple-digits on the gun.

I'll even attend Maholm's enshrinement in Cooperstown if needed.

The point is that he is an unknown. You can't evaluate the trade at this point in time. The only point here is that Tommy John surgery means nothing like it did in the past. You can come back from it and be better than you were. Mariano Rivera had the surgery in 1992. He was 23 years old...a young live arm just like Arodys Vizcaino is now.

The Cubs did it so its automatically stupid, duh.

Wow Chicago baseball is going to be blessed in the next few years. We got Randy Johnson on the south side and Rivera on the north side.

Keyser, you are full of crap. If KW trades for that same guy from the Braves you are gushing over it.

Its gonna happen. Sounds like the douchebag is off to LA. It better be for someone decent though. I heard Ethan Martin mentioned and I don't mind that.

Dammit. He was the only other tolerable return. The better have found a way to get Webster.

Because no trade involving Ryan Dempster could ever possibly fall through at the last minute
