I wonder why KW wouldn't have pursued Dempster rather than Liriano once the Braves fell through. I'm not a huge Dempster guy but I think he is better than Liriano.

There's no way he would approve a trade to go to the shitiest organization in baseball

RT @BleacherNation: Phil Rogers says Cubs still trying to get Webster in Dempster deal, may be including another player to make it happen.

Just from hearing him speak. Kenny seems to be a big believer that AL pitchers are way better than NL pitchers.

I mean everyone knows the AL is tougher but Kenny like reeeeeeaaaaly subscribes to that theory

The word is that its Russell. I don't know if I like this. Russell is good.

Geovany Soto Trade Update: Cubs Receive More Than Just RHP Jake Brigham

On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers completed a trade which sends former all-star catcher Geovany Soto to Texas in exhange for 24-year old right-handed pitcher Jacob Brigham, along with a player to be named later or cash considerations. The addition of either a player to be named later or cash considerations could mean many different things, and Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation did an excellent job of breaking down the issue:

It's possible that both the PTBNL and the cash considerations coming to the Cubs are tied to how many games Geovany Soto starts for the Rangers over the rest of this season (i.e., the Rangers may have told the Cubs they were trading for a back-up for Mike Napoli (less value), but the Cubs might want protection if the Rangers are actually picking themselves up a starters, so they can re-allocate Napoli (more value)).

Alternatively/additionally, the Cubs could simply have built themselves a hedge that, if the PTBNL(s) they're looking at doesn't perform well over the next month or two, the Cubs can just get some cash back.

Brigham is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound pitcher that was drafted in the sixth round by the Rangers in the 2006 MLB Draft as a high school player out of Florida. He is considered a back end of the rotation type prospect.

The transition from the NL to the AL will be tough and Liriano has been good since he was put back in the rotation.

Dempster and Camp...hell yes, but I don't like giving up Russell.

Which Cub prospects do you NOT like?

Honestly asking because it seems like you like them all

Russel isn't a prospect. He's and established lefty reliever. He has too much value as compared to a righty reliever to throw into a trade with another high value pitcher for just a prospect.

If Russell is in the deal they may be sending someone else in addition to Webster.

He's 26.

Do you see him helping this team long term?

He's an average left having a real good season. Selling high perhaps?

And a closer look at his numbers reveals his WHIP is at a career high.

Cool

Phil Rogers
Are the Cubs stalking big game? It's pure speculation, but ESPN's Buster Olney sees the possibility of a Justin Upton-Matt Garza package with the Diamondbacks. Upton is young enough to fit the Cubs' needs, and they have plenty of payroll space for him as he ages, but the Cubs are on the list of teams he can block a trade with, according to Olney. Garza would be a good piece for the Diamondbacks, who have badly missed Daniel Hudson, and the Cubs are willing to send along cash, which the Diamondbacks need. This would qualify as a blockbuster.

Interesting but I liked the rumor that Texas would offer 3b stud prospect Mike Olt and another unknown prospect for Garza.

I like that. They would really be buying low. Upton has superstar potential. He just needs to get his head out of his ass.

Well Upton is a proven guy. I don't personally trust the Cubs OF prospects after Pie and Paterson. IMO his ceiling is better than any guy they have on the farm. We've already seen he come close to it.

I think the upside of Soler is 60 HRs 100 steals every year for about a decade

He is unique in that he is very young proven guy that could get a ton better and he could put butts in seats right now. It will be years before the OF prospects are ready....I don't think BJax or Ha are anything special.

That being said. I can not say now to 3b Mike Olt from Texas.

It's absolutely nutty right now. A Ryan Dempster deal to the Dodgers appears to be dead yet again. If they wanted to play "Hardball" and not the one with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, the Cubs appear to be succeeding.

Don't think it's an OF.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
#Diamondbacks have scratched LHP Patrick Corbin from his scheduled start today in Sacramento.

I would be fine with Garza to AZ for Skaggs and Corbin. Their GM wont be but I would be.

I've heard Garza's name mentioned with...the Blue Jays? I don't think he's going anywhere, at least for today.
