This Soriano stuff is Cub fan's wet dreams. Nobody from the AL is looking into some bum who has been feasting on pitching from the shittiest division in baseball. Nobody from the NL wants him to play outfield.

I agree..I just can't see any team taking on that deal.

Some fans choose to view sports from a realistic, objective stand-point.

But inevitably, the guy who thinks he's a smart fan....is not and knows far less than the person he's trying to mock.

There are no good and bad fans. You get nothing for being objective.

Enjoy it however you want, but there are no good and bad fans.

If you think you're a better fan....you're probably just a douchebag

And yes Peeps, there ARE idiots and its fun mocking them sometimes but at the end of the day, they dont affect anything and neither do we

I disagree.

For a very small price (maybe like 10% of his deal) you get a guy with 30 homerun power.

You don't understand.

Soriano won't have a flag taken on him...when you successfully pass through the waiver process, you can then be traded to any team.

When you ARE claimed, you have some choices:

1) Your team can try to work out a trade with only the team that claims him. If no trade is made, you cannot trade him to any other team until the offseason.

OR

2) The team can choose to outright him to the claiming team.

Obviously no one is going to want to outright pick up Soriano's contract...which is why he can be traded.

Yeah, Soriano's deal is probably the most toxic contract to ever pass thru waivers. No one would touch that.

It would be awesome if some GM had a Jerry Angelo moment and accidentally claimed him

Are they including Rizzo in on the deal? Soriano hasn't hit 30 home runs since before Obama was stealing bigfan's money.

Sometimes...but sometimes not. Be honest Bryan...you know there are some idiot fans...many of them refer to themselves as "Cubs fans." Ask them to name 2 guys from the bullpen - and they can't do it. Ask them to name all 5 starters...probably couldn't even do that. I was talking to a "Cubs fan" yesterday who didn't know who Paul Maholm was. I talked to another Cubs fan recently who thought the Cubs should sign Bryan LaHair to an extension "before another team takes him."

I have heard of a guy who thought Randy Wells and Blake Dewitt were future stars.

25 homerun power.

I doubt every DH in the AL is better than Soriano

Finally back to civilization and catching up on Cubs news. The Maholm/Johnson deal is amazing. Most Braves sources I'm reading would have rather done the Dempster/Delgado deal.

Dempster/Soto to Rangers is also really solid considering the complete lack of leverage the Atlanta situation and Dempster's desire for LA.

Happy.

No Dunn is better

But at least half the DH's in the AL have a lower OPS

Sori has a higher WAR, and in the White Sox lineup...his raw numbers would be superior. His OPS is only slightly behind. That would increase playing 81 games at the Cell.

Right...versus summertime in wrigley...versus nl pitching in the worst division in baseball

Might wanna run those numbers with Soriano as a DH

His WAR would certainly be lower

I think he's still a 280 20 homerun guy. Nothing great.

But many GM's have been swindled by the dead cat bounce anyway

That post by bigfan might be the worst ever on this site, not authored by CGS, The Brand, or Jimmy Rearend.

IMU clearly doesn't understand WAR.

We aren't talking Adam Dunn from 6-7 years ago.

Obviously Soriano's numbers suffer within one of the worst offenses in the NL.

If he has a heartbeat and stands in the outfield, he gets an advantage over DH's

The positional adjustments are:
+1.0 wins C
+0.5 SS/CF
+0.0 2B/3B
-0.5 LF/RF/PH
-1.0 1B
-1.5 DH

Its not good to compare WAR across seasons or positions but if you HAVE to with a DH its better to look at Offensive WAR

Dunn : 1.9
Soriano: 1.1

Please note that IMU does not speak for all Cub fans on the board.

Oh, so all Cub fans don't call other fans idiots and fail to grasp even the most basic concepts of WAR and use it in a laughable way to make a point?

Do you consider AL pitching to be equal to NL pitching?

I think both divisions stink though.

It is hard to say that the AL pitchers are so great when the AL hitters always put up better numbers, yes?

I attribute that to the AL having overall better lineups due to the DH but I can see your point. I would still take an avg AL pitcher over an avg NL pitcher any day of the week.

Soriano might put up slightly better power numbers, but he's not gonna get on base like Dunn does

Quality of pitching between the leagues changes year to year imo

Good pitching down the stretch and in the playoffs has historically rendered Soriano completely ineffective. I imagine that good pitching down the stretch and in the playoffs will have a similar effect on Dunn this year. Both of them make too much money for the production you get from them. Dunn is a better hitter at this stage of their respective careers.
