Hello fitness friends. Yours truly is curious what the board thinks of the aforementioned topic as far as its importance in your lives. Would you / do you stay at a job you love but pays shit? would you be more inclined to stay at a job you hate but pays real well? Im definitely more the latter. I make pretty good money but my job satisfaction is awfully low. On good days its tolerable, on bad days its licks balls. With the wife / mortgage/ kid thing going on, I dont have a lot of flexibility in starting over finding something I would like to do ( besides bitch about things on a message board that is). Hope it doesnt come off as too whiny considering the state of the economy and more than a few board members underemployed or out of work all together. Whatcha think?

It depends on what you consider "income" in this. I'd rather make less money working 35 hours a week than make more money working 60 hours a week.

Working the same amount of hours, I'd rather make more money.

Money trumps happiness for me. Family can't eat happiness.

Luckily my job doesn't suck most days.

I don't make a ton of dough but becoming legally single as of January has showed me how much money
I actually do make and it is tolerable since I don't have a wife in my pocket looking for new clothes. My
check used to go to the mortgage and all the bills leaving me with not much from the good old wife. I
don't need that much either which helped her cause. In any case, I like the people I work with, my job
most days and my hours are perfect for me ( 6am - 3pm ). Having plenty of time to do what I want is
worth a lot to me, something money can't buy.

I have always wondered if you have had any dealings with my ex-wife. She works at the Bradley Road location.

As a single guy with no kids, job satisfaction over income any day.

But if I were married with kid(s), like Speeps said, happiness can't feed mouths (and wife's retail therapy).

A few thoughts:

1) My parents taught me that work is meant to be hard, and it is meant to suck. That's why they call it "work".

2) Everyone makes less than they believe they are worth, just like everyone never has enough money. If you made more money, you would just spend more money.

3) Hobbies, friends and family are most important. Therefore, the best thing you can do is find a job willing to pay you enough to thoroughly enjoy those three things.

Your parents were wrong. That thinking comes from a time period when companies actually cared about you instead of viewing you as another consumable.

Do you agree with them that work is "meant to suck"? That's a terrible outlook based on outdated ideas.

True dat. Four kids. If I want to give those kids what my parents gave me (a college education), I can't really afford to take a job I truly like.

I also think it depends on the job too and what it offers. I know somebody that is looking for a job with health benefits.

Say your single and at a job that you love and doesn't pay well, yes that could be fun, but what if you meet somebody and could possibly want a future with that person, then you would probably have to leave that job for something better.

Truthfully, I would probably stay at a job that I hate that does pay well.

I love my job. I will never make a ridiculous amount of money, but I make enough to support my family and still be able to do much of the things that I want to do, like go on vacations and stuff and that's pretty much enough for me.

Have to have them benefits.

When I got clipped in Mid-May, that was what worried me most. Not the direct loss of income from only going to have 3 days on my last check, but that I only had two weeks of that there coverage. Yes, I am single with no kids or ex wives, those are choices I've made in life. I can go find work and make money. Not every job and opportunity will have healthcare. Even if I get a legit job making the wage I was pulling in at my time of dismissal, there will still be a 30-90 day window until I get my card.

Job satisfaction? I'm not saving lives or making the world a better place. At 35 years old, how many years of digging ditches do my knees and back have left in them? For me, have to make that money and worry about how miserable it is at the bank each week.

If I absolutely had to pick one I'd go with income, but from now on I don't plan on trying to take a job that doesn't include a happy medium of both. Right now I have a better job and make significantly more money than I had in Texas but not nearly as happy as I was down there being away from my girlfriend and dog and other friends. I figure it's worth it for the 4-6 months I'm here but happiness trumps money to me. When I have kids I'll see it like Peeps does because giving my kids the childhood I had would increase my happiness and it takes money to do that.

Always a tough call. Sorry but money can buy you love!

3 of 4 guys I go to Vegas with, married 2-3 kids, all make very good livings, wives give them no sit!

2 Guys who want to go to Vegas, get in fights with the wives over Vegas and basically everything else they do.

1 Guy is fucked no matter what he says or does and he makes BANK! She just bitches at him for everything.

Work shouldn't suck. If work "sucks", then find something else to do. If you complain about your job, then find a different job. If you call it "work, then you're doing it wrong. Do something you like.
You're better off working in a job that you like for less money, than working in a job that you hate for more money.
I could leave my current job for more money at any time, but I love what I do & have no interest in doing anything else.

Do you hear that you lazy M'Fers?! Just go get a better job! Seriously. What's wrong with you people? Just go find one of those readily available jobs out there already! Just go ahead and quit this morning. Employers are falling over themselves trying to hire people these days. You'll surely have multiple offers by this afternoon.
