Jackson, Vitters in uniform in LA
By Brian Bedo - Follow @miCubs and @BrianBedo on Twitter

miCubs has learned that the Cubs have called up top prospects Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters. Both are in uniform in Los Angeles for the Cubs and Dodgers series finale today. There is nothing yet to report on corresponding moves.

Jackson, who came into 2012 as the Cubs #1 rated prospect by most outlets, has a .256/.338/.479/.817 line in 106 games with Triple-A Iowa this season. The Cubs 2009 first round pick out of Cal has hit 22 doubles, 12 triples and 15 homers while driving in 47 runs and stealing 27 bags. The left-handed hitting 24 year-old has also struck out a league-leading 158 times and has played above average defense in centerfield, by all accounts.

Jackson's I-Cubs teammate Vitters is having his best overall season with the Cubs since the organization made him the third overall pick in the 2007 draft. Vitters currently sports a .304/.356/.513/.869 clip with 17 homers and 68 RBI. His walk-rate has improved marginally this season but he still needs to improve on his defense, as the 22 year-old has committed 21 errors at third base.

Spin:

I'm excited as anyone. I've had the fortune of following both Jackson and Vitters since 2009 and they are both outstanding young kids who have worked extremely hard to get where they are at. While Jackson still needs to make more consistent contact, he does everything else above-average to extremely well. Cubs fans will love the energy he exerts day-in and day-out as well as his gap-to-gap hitting with some power sprinkled in.

Most people counted out Vitters awhile back. We still don't know what he'll amount to, but thr adjustments he's made to his overall approach to the game over the last year and a half have been the reason he has finally broken through to the bigs. He's an excellent contact hitter with some very good pop.

Either way, it was time for the Cubs to figure out what they got in their former first rounders.

Seriously?

"We'll send pics when they arrive"?

To borrow a phrase from ASFB, HOOTERVILLE!

That doesn't sound logical, and this isn't the Hendry regime. What would the reason be for sitting him? How are his splits? There has to be a reason.

The fact that Luis Fucking Valbuena should block anyone is absurd.

Exactly. Which is why I question the validity of Vitters not playing everyday. By the way, my Jeff Baker thread was a joke announcing the trade.

I don't think they made the roster move with Vitters and Campana early enough to get him active today. Hopefully what I read about Swaimer wanting to give Vitters a day and platoon him was just made up bs.

Vitters scouting reports were right on the money. He's getting eatin alive by major league pitching. He doesn't barell the ball up and swings at way too many pitchers pitches which result in weak grounders and lazy flyballs. He's going to have to make some very difficult adjustments to make it as an everyday major leaguer.

Right, but if he would have gotten hot for 2 weeks, IMU would have been calling him the next Mike Schmidt.
