That's a strange question. Should we start liking a player just because they win a title?

That's not what I meant Brick.

But if the knock on him was that all he wanted to do was defer and that he wasn't "clutch", I think he pretty much stepped up when it mattered. There was really no doubt when the Finals were over as to who the best player on the floor was. He had as dominating a Finals as I've seen probably since Wade in 2006. So, what's left to not like at this point?

What are you suggesting? . . . that my distaste for LeBron stems from his acheivements/performances in Cleveland and his first year with the Heat?

Well, that's been the story for most Lebron dissenters in the last two years. It's fine if that's not the reason you particularly dislike him, but I framed it as a question because I'm really interested in knowing why.

I don't think people hated him because he failed in the playoffs. The hatred for Lebron comes mostly from off the court stuff and that hasn't changed regardless of whatever insincere acknowledgements he has made.

In reality, I just don't think I can ever root for Lebron again. It's not that he made a mistake, but it's that even now he doesn't seem to understand or care.

I'm a Bulls fan. I hate LeBron.

As a sports fan, have you ever had strong feelings/hatred of someone who you believe is the #1 guy standing in the way of your favorite team's success?

I'll admit --- I watched "The Decision" hoping he would say the Bulls. If he had, I'm sure I would love LeBron. He didn't. Now he represents the enemy.

I hate LeBron.

That's fair.

To answer your question, I don't think I've hated an athlete that represented a threat since Brett Favre in the 90s. So now that you explain it, I do understand the logic. But I would say that I can't think of Lebron as an obstacle for the Bulls, simply because the Bulls have actually regressed and are now further from a title than they were in 2011 when they were eliminated by the Heat. The hammer isn't really the nail's rival. Know what I mean?

I guess my question in response to that would be, would there ever come a point where he gains your respect? And since it's mostly off-court stuff, what would he need to do?

I wasn't suggesting you were joking. I didn't really think you were "messing with us". I was trying to make a point.

I'm just surprised at your response.

I hate Keyshawn Johnson because I was in attendance when he ripped the Wildcats apart in Rose Bowl. Should I like him now because he gained over 10,000 yards in the NFL?

See, I never really took sports rivalries to heart like some do. I've been more of a fan of individual players as opposed to teams. Blame it on all the baseball/basketball cards I've collected and video games I've played. I've been a fan of a lot of players that weren't in Chicago.

I enjoy having opinions that are contrary to popular opinion. It becomes boring very quickly agreeing with everyone.

Yes. With the exception of Game 6 in Boston (best game of his career) I didn't see anything that made me think differently about LeBron. In fact I walked away believe that Chalmers is being held back in Miami. He has some HUGE stones.

Let me say that I do respect him. I just wish I could like him.

He just doesn't come off as genuine or like he understands why what he did was so bothersome to huge fans of his like I was. Even his acknowledgements, which I wouldn't even call an apology, seemed contrived like Nike told him to do it. It also annoys me when athletes play the "your life still sucks" card when those fans are the reason they are where they are today.

Also, and this is purely selfish on my behalf, I've been excited to watch Lebron win his first title since I heard about him in high school. The fact that he turned himself into a person that I can't root for is a major disappointment.

Interesting. I certainly am a fan of players. I rooted for Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, Kirk Heinrich, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, when they left the Bulls . . .

. . . but I hated Horace Grant when I watched him get carried off on shoulders when the Magic beat the Bulls in the playoffs. Prior to that I loved Horace.

I don't feel I'm alone when I say that I put team first and players second (and then hate them when they fuck with my favorite team).

My second most heartbreaking Bulls memory of all time.

That's a good analogy. I hated Isiah Thomas and my feelings never changed when he found success as a head coach and GM.

That was a little before I really started watching basketball. Before 1990, I was all baseball.

I'll show you my ball signed by the team.

It's the left one.

I'm in the middle on this one. Jason Kidd and Tim Duncan have been my favorite NBA players since Jordan(although Rose is basically forcing himself into that group). But I never really like players from rival teams. I even started changing my opinion on Wade once that seemed like it could become a rivalry. But Wade playing and pouting like a bitch helped greatly in turning genuine respect into genuine dislike.

RPB has recently come out as pro-Bieber and pro-Jim Belushi. Felt like the right time to bump this.
