Been reading John Feinstein's book Play Ball chronicling things in baseball during the 1992 season. In chapter 17 when talking about the Milwaukee Brewers he makes a statement that in 1969 the city thought they had a deal to bring the White Sox to the city but the deal fell through.

Don't think I have heard about this. Any of you old timers care to give the history of those events?

It's cute that the White Sox threatened to move to a Chicago suburb in order to get a better deal.

The Sox actually played a bunch of home games up there in '68 and '69. I think Selig was trying to show that Milwaukee could support a team. When the Sox actually drew most of their attendance up there in just a handful of games, that may be when the idea of moving them came up.

1969 is the first season I remember as a Sox fan. They were fucking terrible. Don Gutteridge was the manager. My favorite player was Bobby Knoop. Can you imagine? Duane Josephson was the regular catcher. No wonder people thought Beckert and Hundley were good.

There was also a plan where the White Sox would move to Seattle and NWI native Charlie O. Finley would bring the A's to Chicago. Milwaukee, Seattle, St. Petersburg, we had three chances to get that team the fuck out of here and couldn't do it. What a cockroach.

Maybe TheoandJed's plan will work better to eliminate one of the Chicago franchises. So far, so good.
