Joost? I watch a decent amount of Euro PGA when the kids wake me up sat/sun mornings, and don't remember seeing his name?

The course is playing very difficult it looks like today, very few people under par. Singh is -3 on the day and Man Boobs is -2.

Apparently the wind is really gusting down there.

Other than singh and mickleson, everyone is + today.

I know he's a "nobody", but Noren shot 67 yesterday with 1 bogey. Today, he's +9 through 14 holes. T2 to T88.

This is how the British Open should have been.

Tiger hits the green on the Par 5 2nd in 2 and can't even make the eagle putt.

You suck!

Some guy shot a 93 today. That's pretty bad.

That gives me an idea though. The PGA should raffle off a spot at each tournament and have an ordinary guy shoot a round, so that we can see how much better professionals are for each course.

Daly's is already 3 over after 3, he is on his way. D.A. Points is 12 over after 7, he better pick it up if he is going to break 93.

I played a US Open course the week after the Open one time. The rough was ridiculous. Hardest course I ever played and I was playing pretty regularly still back then.

Every par 3 was 225+. Every par 4 was Driver/3-iron minimum. I was wiped out when I was done from hitting so many power shots but I still kept it around 92 if I remember right.

I've played Tour-calibar course once in my life and barely broke 100. It is simply a different game for those guys.

I have played Whistling Straits from the tips, and I wanted to jump off of one of those cliffs when I was done. There were 2 par 4's playing into the wind and I had to hit for all it was worth just to get to the fairway.

That's 1 better than Doug Wade did today.

Is the big problem just distance? And how much of the issue is that professional equipment is better than regular dude equipment?

Conditions of the course: much faster greens and harder, tighter fairways, tall rough, around the greens if you miss them is awful. Other than that, it is just wonderful.

Distance is absolutely the biggest factor, coupled with proper technique. 90% of the equipment the pros use is either the same or very similar to what amateur players use (a couple pros have prototype clubs).

With me, the distance was on the edge of my ability to be at all accurate and the rough was an automatic 1-shot penalty because it wasn't going to go more than about 40 yards. But that was US Open rough which is more difficult than just about any other course.

Pin positions play a huge part too and I didn't even play with pin position what I'm sure they were for the pros.

Its the swing and the power these guys have. You could be using the best clubs in the world, but if you don't hit the ball just right, it ain't going straight. These guys hit the ball square almost every single time. That is why they often take up giant chunks of grass.

Distance...kinda. The pros are so good with the flat stick and their wedges, that if they can even get near the green they are gonna get that up and down for their par way more often than not. When most of us weekend hackers waste a shot in the middle of the fairway on a Par 4, we're lucky to get out of there with a bogey.

Accuracy is obviously very important, but when I'm hitting a 4-iron into the same green that a pro hits a 7-iron into, there's gonna be a major scoring difference.

I will agree that the difference between a pro's short game and that of a weekend player is night and day.

We now have a 87 and 85 posted. My guy D.A. Poins shot 49 on the back side, but never fear he birdied 1.
