So hypothetically if Hermanson was injured from day one do you think the White Sox don't win the World Series?

Keep in mind the Sox won the division by 6 games, and the Sox had 3 other pitchers in the bullpen who had under a 3 ERA that year. How many games would the replacement closer have blown? 6 of those 34 that Hermanson did?

Hermanson was important at the start of the regular season but unfortunately his injury made his contribution minimal.

Why do my thoughts on Theo hurt your feelings so much?

I'm just a dumbass Sox homer and should be ignored. Just accept that.

I would wager that my thoughts on Kenny (good not great) hurt your feeling way more. You certainly bring it up waaaaay more than I do.

Your thoughts are fine. Just very biased and transparently so, at that.

You argued that Hermanson was a gamble that didnt work out.

You argued that a journey man pitcher who had never closed, coming in and saving 30 games for your team in the half that they built up their big lead, was a gamble that didnt work out

Why did you say that?

In defense of Kenny

So Rick said that a trade by Kenny didn't work out because he always defends Kenny? Isn't a trade not working out usually a negative mark on a GM's resume? I think you and Rick just like arguing so much you decided to switch sides.

It you both agree he's a top 8 GM then it's hard to say you are objective and he is biased.

Maybe they don't even make the World Series. You talk about the Sox winning the division by 6 games, but at one point they saw a 15 game division lead shrink to just 1.5 games. Hermanson played a BIG part in the Sox getting out to such a big lead.

Hermanson was 1-0 with 8 saves and a 1.68 in August....the Sox worst month that year. So, he played a big part thru Labor Day, and even then he was used as a setup for Jenks. His contributions to that team were anything but "minimal"

I think the Sox could have made the playoffs without Hermanson. They had other capable relievers.

I don't think it's fair to call that thought "obviously, stupidly wrong". The Sox were good enough to dominate in the playoffs without Hermanson. I think they could have found a way to win enough games without him in the regular season to still make the playoffs.

The ENTIRE FUCKING bullpen pitched a total of 0.1 innings in the ALCS, so I guess they didn't need any of them on the playoff roster.

Welp, screw you El Duque! Our staters are just that good so you get to ride the pine while Joe Borchard takes your playoff roster spot! Oh, and Neal Cotts? Sorry, you've been replaced by Raul Casanova.

Is that a serious thought?

I'm pretty sure the playoffs were more than the ALCS, but even then, those players were still available. Hermanson appeared in one inning in game 3 of the World Series.

I am. Both kids are still young and have plenty of time to develop, but Castro has to be more selective at the plate and take a walk every now and again. The scouting report is simple - throw the kid junk and watch him ground out.

In the context of the thread it was supporting Kenny because it was an attempt to say there were less gables paid off this year.

anyway, who cares. Really, I've spent way too much time on this, even for this place.

Looking forward to the best post season in sports

I think we can all agree Hermansons unexpected contribution as a closer played a big part in the run to the post season that culminated in the World Series win, even if he was nearly absent in the post season.

Its like Kyle Ortons contributions to teams that went to the playoffs.

Id like to figuratively by you two a beer at the Csfmb tavern.

Personally, I favor Darwin Barney. He's not going to go on base nearly as much as Theriot. But he's better defensively and is a better baserunner.

Barney and it's not close. Theriot was a bad SS and is a serviceable 2B. Barney is a very good 2B and could be a better SS.

Stat guys might want to take a visit to @LenKasper. He brings up some defensive Barney stats and fields some questions from the twitterers. Stats suggest Barney has been very good at 2B.

Darwin Barney is a gold glove caliber second basemen. If the Cubs were good, it'd be a lock.

2% Chance for Vitters

No, because he doesn't play for the Sox, and that's WSCR's way of being kid glove-sy with Sox players.

I wasn't aware that saying a Sox player is deserving of a gold glove is the same as saying that he is "the best defensive player at his position in history"
