Jimmy Kimmel has come a long way from his days on Comedy Central as co-host of the comedy game show "Win Ben Stein's Money" & "The Man Show" with fellow comic turned radio host Adam Carolla. Since 2003, Kimmel has entertained audiences as host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on ABC. With the late night celebrity gabfest approaching its 10th Anniversary next year, the "alphabet network" has made an announcement regarding the show that many feel is long overdue.

According to both USA Today & the New York Times, ABC has announced that Kimmel will move his show from the current 11P (CT) to 10:35P, putting Jimmy head to head vs. CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" & NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" starting January 8th. The move also bumps ABC News' "Nightline" an hour later to 11:35P Monday-Friday.

While "Nightline", which has occupied the 10:35P weeknight time slot since its own debut in 1980, has consistently beaten Leno & Letterman in that 10:35P time slot in the ratings, a couple of things have happened to that show in recent years. For starters, "Nightline" was on the verge of cancellation in 2002 when ABC actually tried unsuccessfully to land Letterman to headline their own late night lineup. Letterman ended up extending his current deal with CBS, while original anchor Ted Koppel retired from "Nightline" in 2005.

As for the current incarnation of "Nightline", besides moving from the network's Washington bureau to its Times Square Studios in New York, ABC News replaced Koppel with rotating hosts such as former "WGN Morning News" sports anchor Bill Weir, Cynthia McFadden & Terry Moran. "Nightline" is no longer the single topic it was originally intended. It's now a multi-topic program similar to other prime time newsmagazines. ABC has also announced that a primetime edition of "Nightline" will debut March 1st at 8P.

As far as Kimmel is concerned, these are great times for the funnyman. He recently hosted the annual White House Correspondents Dinner to a favorable reaction from those in attendance. Come September 23rd, Kimmel will throw out the first ad-lib as host of ABC's live coverage of the Primetime Emmy Awards for the first time. He can also thank a 3% increase in its ratings, its highest numbers in 5 years, while BOTH Leno & Letterman have both lost viewership along the way.

I don't know how people watch these shitty late night talk shows. There is almost zero creativity within the format

Kimmel's signature shtick is the "Unnecessary Censorship" on Thursday nights. It's pretty self-explanatory...
