No thread for this yet.

So, it looks like once again one of the most illogical places in the country to have a major city is going to get hit. I feel sorry for everyone who lives there but it may be time to seriously consider a permanent takeover of the parts of the city at or below sea level.

If New Orleans gets hit again, will it be Barrys fault?

New Orleans is one of the armpits of America...a dirty filthy place. I feel bad for the people here who may be facing another disaster.

 Because they are going to be hit by a hurricane and may lose everything they own or at the very least see significant damage across the whole region they live in.

So you feel bad for people who decided to live in an area that was decimated by a hurricane 7 years ago, knowing full well that it will only happen again, and again, and again, and again?

It takes a minimum amount of money to be able to move. Not everybody is choosing to be there because they don't want to go somewhere else.

How would a "permanent takeover" work?

Ask Mayor Daley how to do it.

Turn it into parkland, or a recreational area, or just use eminent domain to buy up all the land.

He shouldn't be. Bush isn't around to blow up the levees this time.

While the levies are supposed to be better than they were then, there were actually things that happened directly over New Orleans that lessened the impact of the wind during Katrina. http://www.wunderground.com/blog/bnorcross/comment.html?entrynum=6

That is a classically insensitive and extremely dumbassed statement. Not to mention an ignorantly sweeping generalization. I wish guys like you didn't occasionally come out of the woodwork to be tards.

Dude, chill the fuck out.

And people choose where they live. If they live in a frequent natural disaster zone, then they should expect to get this on a relatively frequent basis. It's not insensitive, its the truth.

That's no different than Bernstein and stupid assed, "Why don't those poor people just leave Englewood" comments. I understand you're a very well-off individual, but not everyone has the means that you have to just uproot yourself at the drop of a hat.

BTW, why no comments about the wildfires? Wouldn't have anything to do with the region and the quality of homes affected, would it? Couldn't be...

But yeah, fuck those poor people.

Just let the sea reclaim it.

Not everyone has the means to move.

Thats why you see bums in chicago when its 0 degrees out. Why dont they panhandle enough for a bus ticket somewhere warm right?

I guess they cant

This isn't a wildfire thread, that would be why.

I never said fuck poor people. I just said I don't feel bad for people who choose to live in a location that there is a good chance they will have everything they own destroyed every 5 years.

Even the homeless can move to a different area where this will not happen if they wanted to.

Yeah! You tell 'em, BC! Those homeless can find an empty box in Des Moines just as easy as they can in Nawlins!!

Only if he blows the levees to protect rich white neighborhoods and tourism centers at the expense of poor black folks like Bush43 did.

Yep. If you look hard enough there is footage that shows Bush43 fast roping onto the levee's from a Blackhawk helicopter with a satchel full of TNT. He even winks at the camera before lighting the explosives.

I understand why it's a bad place to have a city, but you sort of have to have a major port town at the mouth of the Mississippi, don't you? Lot of essential shipping operations down around New Orleans.
