He is, by far, the best fill in to work with Bernstein. He has absolutely no problem challenging Dan on even minor things. Dan needs that every now and then and as much as I love Boers, he doesn't do it often enough.

Funny as hell. Can tell a good story. Seems to get along with everyone on the show. And even though I may be the biggest Goff and Drinky fan in the world, they aren't on Barry's level when it comes to working with Dan.

This needs to happen....whenever Boers decides to hang it up.

I don't know if that's going to happen as long as Mitch Rosen is still The SCORE's Program Director. Terry's "two favorite words in show business" might beg to differ. Unfortunately...

Guys, I thought you had to pay a fee to access some of the articles on not only the Daily Herald's Web site, but also their sister paper the Sun-Times, too.

I love how Rozner just throws Bernsie's shit back at him. He's not afraid to have a differing opinion, and he'll stand by his opinion. He doesn't take everything Bernstein says as gospel. Every other fill in seems intimidated by Dan. Barry isn't.

Yeah. And it doesn't come off as confrontational all the time and it's still entertaining. He never seems rattled either...

It'd be interesting to see how you guys like him in large doses. I have read the DH and Barry for about 25 years. He used to be the Cubs beat reporter, but now he does his opinion oriented column. I find that his opinions and "preachiness" wear on you over time. He does a lot of know it all/ I told you so pieces. His writing style is also annoying. He will refer to stuff in the the plural like "we told you here...". His picks favorites and then defends them to no end while doing the opposite for people he does not personally like. It clouds his judgement on athletes and coaches. He has been way too harsh on Lovie, while giving Tiger a huge defense for everything.

That is why I dislike him and his opinions.

I wouldn't have a problem with Rozner as a permanent successor for Boers someday, but I just have this hunch that "you know who" is ahead of the Daily Herald columnist and he'll be in tomorrow-Friday with Bernstein.

I still remember what SCORE management did right after Mike North left. They gave him the 2-hour midday shift from 10A-Noon with "Stuttering" Dan Hampton on a silver platter without giving other part-time SCORE guys a chance to earn the job. I'm afraid the same thing might happen again, this time with Bernstein should Boers hang up the mic in the near future.

Not funny enough. The show would get old quickly.

I've gotta think he is. I thought I heard Boers once say he's 60, while Bernsy's 40.

I like his sense of humor. It's different than Boers' stuff, but not bad...

He doesn't make odd noises like Boers, let alone a certain someone who's in the rest of the week who shall remain nameless.

I think Boers is about 62 and Rozner is about 50. Bernstien is in his mid 40s.

Yeah. Rozner should be Bernstein's partner. I'll go one step further. I think it's been discussed at the Score. I think it's in the works. Barry's profile at the station has gone up. He does "Hit and Run", subs on the morning show and is Bernstein's personal favorite to sub on his show.

1. Newspapers are going out of business. Barry knows it. You'd have to think a suburban paper is most in jeopordy compared to city papers. Barry has probably been pushing himself on Mitch Rosen and talking behind Terry's back with Bernstein.

2. Barry's accomplished. That's why he's a good match for Bernstein. He's written 3 books and has won awards as a writer according to his Daily Herald bio. He did the Cubs beat for a long time and has been a columnist for a long time. Because of his resume, he's sure of himself unlike the other Score guys who are lacking in credibility and are intimidated/overmatched by Bernstein. Barry also has good sources in hockey and baseball.

3. Bernstein likes and respects Rozner. It's important cuz Bernstein doesn't like or respect most people. Certainly not Larry or his producers. So it couldn't work with them. It would just be Bernstein making them look like fools which is what he does to them now. It would also be a lot of childish fights if it were Goff or Drinky - fighting with Bernstein just to fight with him. Larry, of course, would continue to suck up to Bernstein and repeat everything Bersntein says to get his approval. These things just wouldn't make for a good full time show.

Can't disagree with most of that, Beardown. Can't get with you on the 'respect' thing. But I understand what you're saying...

He seems to struggle when the show gets "silly" which is normally when it's at it's best. Even with the bad Bears trivia stuff yesterday he seemed like more of a bystander while Bernstein was driving it.

I could see it though. I'm just not voting for Rozner. I am voting for "Not Spiegel".

That is a valid point, Beardown. The Daily Herald is part of the Sun-Times' Newspaper Group, and the Sun-Times has been strapped for cash for quite sometime to a point where current SCORE morning guys Mike Mulligan & Brian Hanley were among the countless Sun-Times reporters and newspaper employees recently were among quite a few cutbacks in an effort to save $$$$.

Something else I've noticed. The print version of the Sun-Times has trimmed at least a good 15-30 pages or so due to higher print & paper costs. If you pick up a hard copy of the S-T, the Herald or other papers, you might know what I'm referring. Also, the S-T recently cut a deal with the rival Tribune for home delivery.

There's a good reason for that. Barry still sees himself as a journalist. To the point where he denies that he's a Cubs and Hawks fan although he obviously is. I think he feels it's unbecoming for a "serious" journalist to make penis and pussy jokes. He's going to have to make the call at some point on whether he wants to continue being worse than Rick Telander in a quickly dying business or switch to being better than Larry in a more slowly dying one.

That's actually one of Barry's strengths. He lays out for Bernstein to do his thing. Goff, on the other hand, has no timing or radio discipline. Sum bitch just talks too much and steps all over his partners. He just pukes out half baked, uninformed thoughts and bad jokes. Goff wouldn't be smart enough to realize that Bersntein is the star. That would hurt the show. Goff's ego is such that he has to be the alpha male. He's not qualified to be an alpha male, but he doesn't realize it.

I think the Chicago Tribune will be the only survivor. It's still the 3rd biggest city in the country, so we'll have one paper. I don't think the Sun-Times or Daily Herald will be around in 5 years.

You might be right, even though the Tribune Company has had financial issues of their own. You can thank Sam Zell for that.
