He's (sorta statistically) better than Harper at least!

I love that IMU has been secretly injecting Jackson with HGH in order to look better in his argument. From a Cub fan POV, we are all winners.

Lies.

You started the thread with this;
Quote:
Brett Jackson is doing far better in his first taste of the big leagues than Mike Trout did.
Brett Jackson has played 20 major league games. That is not a "sufficient amount of data" any way you slice it for an everyday player.

From these stats I project Jackson to have a career stolen base total of zero.

IMU,
Answer this question with a Yes or a No.

Do you think that Jackson will be as good as Mike Trout?

I don't even know if Mike Trout will be as good as Mike Trout. He has had a hell of a 2012 season...it could be somewhat of an aberration. He may never approach those season numbers again.
I'm asking which player you think will have a better career. Please answer.

Unlike some here, I refuse to make concrete statements without a sufficient amount of data. I think Mike Trout's 2012 season is a ceiling for Brett Jackson. I have no idea if 2012 Mike Trout will be representative of 2013-2030 Mike Trout. I know that Brett Jackson's initial MLB statistics so far are better than Mike Trouts' initial MLB statistics, and I know that my original June comparisons between the two players seem more and more logical by the day.

And I will enjoy bringing that fact up in the next couple years.
 I hear beeping you are backtracking so much.

20 is sufficient data for a relief pitcher, not for Brett Jackson. You can be a hypocrite all you want I guess.

Don't think so hoss. Please read the posts from June where I originally brought up the comparison between Jackson and Trout. A few of the sentences posted here are almost word for word.
It's a simple question and you fail to answer it. I will ignore your thoughts further as they are meaningless as you continue to twist it around.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe you had an qualifiers on it besides the fact that Jackson's ceiling is Mike Trout. Any reasonable person would expect that you think that is referring to projected career numbers and not what they did as a rookie. However, maybe I am wrong and I would like you to clarify. You refuse to answer because you know that you will look like a fool if you say that you think Jackson will have as good of a career as Trout and then he doesn't.

Let's get to the "Hard-Hitting Truth". I don't think Jackson will have anything close to as good of a career as Trout and I will enjoy bringing this fact up for the next few years if I am right. Feel free to take the other side of the argument but don't pull an Elmhurst Steve and cop out now and then twist yourself back into the discussion later if it works out for you.

Is this a reference to physical size??

In any case, it's nice to see the lad making contact more frequently. As far as how recent success may translate....lets take a step back and just let him finish out the season. Sometimes a guy gets a run against pitching that is a bit shy of stellar and pads the stats a bit. But he's a really solid outfielder, has good speed and a decent arm. I just hope he continues to put the ball in play.

I am reading thru all of this, but from the jist of it, please tell me IMU is not comparing Jackson to Trout. IMU if you are, it will not end well.

It really isn't. Luol Deng has proven he is a better fit on a winning NBA team.

If you want to lose and have your guy score 40, go with Carmelo.

That's a lot different than saying a guy is "better" than another guy. If a dumbass GM built a team around Deng, it would be worse than one built around Anthony.

IMU: The Skip Bayless of CSFMB

He's proven no such thing. Carmelo has technically gotten 1 game further in the playoffs for their career. Carmelo hasnt played with a player near the caliber of Rose. Deng is a great role player. Carmelo is a legitimate All Star that failed to reach his potential as a superstar. Every GM would rather have Melo over Deng, all things being equal. In a vacuum, Melo is a much better basketball player than Luol Deng is.

IMU, the Deng comparison was terrible and this one is worse.

First you were arguing the ceiling thing. (Like of course he COULD be Trout, we'll just see)

Now that Jackson has lit up the MLB to the tune of a .781 OPS, you're going way overboard.

Trout is a special player. It seems like you think he's just some guy that's having a good year.

Trout, at age 20, is playing better than everyone else in MLB. He's a 9.1 WAR. That's higher than the MLB leader the last 3 years and 3 full wins ahead of the next guy.

To expect Trout to fall off to the level of Jackson is silly.

Jackson might not make the MLB team next year.

If Brett Jackson is able to improve as he has been since getting the call up...something Trout couldn't do when he got the same initial call-up...I can only imagine Brett Jackson continuing to improve.
Replace Brett Jackson with Gordon Beckham and go read some threads about him in 2009. I was one of them that was fooled into thinking Bacon was going to be a hellava run producer in the middle of the lineup for the Sox.

So much for your "sample size"

Maybe Jackson will be great. Maybe he will be just ok. Maybe he will end up being a .230-.240 hitter with 8-10 HRs and 50-60 RBI. I do not see anything that tells me that 24 year old Brett Jackson will have as good or better a career than Mike Trout unless Trout gets hurt.

If Melo was on the Bulls instead of Deng, they would have beaten Philly even after Rose's injury

They wouldve if Noah didnt get hurt too.

But its a good point. We needed Deng to come up big and he came up small. Deng will almost certainly never be the 2nd best player on a championship team. Melo could be the best if he had a 2011 Mavs-type of supporting cast around him like Dirk had.

Trout is great, Jackson will be a serviceable MLB player if he can hit above .250. But I'm pretty certain Trout's on something.
