I would have kept Blanchard over McCown. The only reason to have a 3rd stringer is to develop them. What the hell are they developing with McCown?

From what I'm reading, it appears that Sanzenbacher will stay over Rashied Davis for that 6th WR spot...Sanzenbacher is Cutler's BFF now that Olsen is gone.

Heard Dickerson saying that.

Kinda kills me to see it as my 6th WR should be able to tackle on Special Teams and it seems that 81 has been getting downfield

Biggs is talking like McCown's gonna be playing for his job on Thursday, as if he's not at all a lock to make the roster. I don't know how true that is, especially considering last year's disaster and the uncertainty that Blanchard clears waivers.

It's always wise to keep a WR who was among the league leaders in drops. But I guess he'll catch the ball now that Marts has been fired.

i hope they don't keep mccown as the #3. How about trying to develop a prospect?

Agreed. If you get to the 3rd stringer, you're screwed. Why would keep a 10 year guy at the end of his career? Give a young guy a shot.

Perhaps Phil Emery is uncertain that he wants to re-sign Cutler, plans to use Campbell as a stopgap starter, and may rely upon McCown as a backup?

I agree that the qb situation is awfully curious.

Wow......didn't even consider that scenario, TM. I was thinking maybe the Haine fiasco had something to do with it.

You're probably right, but I can't help thinking that there is some Cutler contract intrigue brewing.

I think it properly conservative in the face of what happened last year.

Blanchard will be on the practice squad. He has no measurables that lead you to believe he could be a legitimate NFL starter. However, he does have intangibles, such as an incredible winning record and nice pocket presence so far, that indicate he could develop into a nice backup.

You're probably right, but this interpretation would be more credible if Emery hadn't been so reckless on the middle linebacker front. His "conservatism" at quarterback makes me suspect he has ulterior motives.

Could they also be planning to not fill the 3rd QB slot and keep an extra position player?

Yes. They can grab up McCown whenever they want but Home Depot will be down an assistant manager.

I hope they get Blanchard back.

Brandon Marshall and Earl Bennet are his black friends, but they probably don't count...

Yeah, they're cool, but they're not "Let's hang at the bar together cool".....remember last year that Sanzenbacher hung out with Jay during the bye week when he went back to Nashville.

I think you just stumbled across a million dollar idea.

With Josh McCown now cut & Matt Blanchard likely part of the Bears' Practice Squad, the Bears will keep just 2 active QBs on the 53-man roster, Jay Cutler & Jason Campbell. Thoughts?

 I was referring to the Bears carrying just 2 QBs on the 53-man roster. I tried.
