Changing closers down the stretch

Very 2005ish.

If Kenny goes against all of you who hate young left handed stud first baseman and lands a lefty power hitter...its on

This is a little different. Shingo was bad to start 2005, but he was gone by May. Hermanson than racked up 32 saves about as quick as you can get them, but his back gave out and forced them to go to Jenks.

This time round, its a terrible closer that has forced them to change (to hopefully Putz!)

Why does RPB make like 1 post an hour about the Sox and not get the Obsessed label?

Maybe My posts just hit home a little more?

Rongey: "Lets go to Bob in Elmhurst"
Bob: "I challenge all the Sox fans to come out this weekend and show some support for this team!"

Honestly, I am even sick of the Sox lack of attendance topic. If they dont want to go, thats it, I am sick of hearing 30% of my sports talk radio being held hostage to the worst topic in Chicago sports.

I hope they sell out all weekend and the topic can go away.

To be fair, the worst topic in the history of Chicago sports was the controversy over the Walter Payton biography last fall.

It's still like 3% of his daily posts.

I think they're really going to win this year

A few things

There is no dominant team in the AL.

The Rangers have pitching issues and Hamilton is as reliable as Spiegal the day after a gig

The Yankees have nothing to brag about in the rotation beyond CC.

The Angels and Tigers are uber talented but cant seem to put it together.

The makeup of the White Sox

Rookies and young guys contributing in Quintana, Sale, Reed, and Viciedo

Veterans having better than expected years: A.J., Rios, Dunn, Peavy

Mid season acquistions working out: Youkalis and Wise

It just seems like a championship mix.

The Rotation

Sale is a top 5 pitcher in the leauge and you could certainly make the case for him being thee best.
Peavy version 2.0 is very good. Not the same pitcher he was, but very good. We'll see if he can have success in the playoffs after a couple bad post season starts in SD
Liriano looks good and is the kind of pitcher (always nibbling) who really benefits from Coop's very simple philosophy (Throw Strikes, Dummy!)
Floyd is Floyd but he does have good stuff and he's the kind of guy I could see coming out of nowhere to have a great post season.

With all those what ifs its still probably the best rotation that will make the playoffs especially if Sale continues what he's doing.

Possible Issues
MLB managers dont make a ton of difference in the regular season, but in the post season every move is a potential season ender or extender. Ventura is obviously new. Im not saying he'll be out managed but its something to think about.

Melky Cabrera made sure if they make it, the White Sox will start on the road.

Can this team hit premier pitching? I think so. I think they have enough real good hitters like Konerko and AJ. I could see Dunn and Rios struggling though.

All in all, they have as good a chance as anyone in baseball.

But baseball is crazy, so who the hell knows....

It would be good to beat a real team instead of the Astros this time.

You don't get movies made about you when you win World Series titles. You get movies made about you when you find a way to lose a lot of playoff games in a lot of years.

Here's OFB with yet another Sox thread. The man is clearly obsessed.

I noticed RPB allowed for the possibility that the Sox won't win the world series this year. Can't help but let his anti-Sox bias show.

You conveniently forgot about Tampa Bay...

Would love for the Sox to win it again...but I'll take the Rays too. Placed bets on both. 8)

Agreed. Rays have a team of destiny feel to them. I fully expect them to overtake the Yankees and win the East.

Verlander v. Sabathia in a one game wild card would be fun.

You guys are right about Tampa. My mistake.

I didnt realize James Shields was such a big strikeout guy. 225 last year.

Yeah, they have the pitching, but they're lineup is suspect

I like what they Rays have.

Every team in the league has a suspect area.

There are no complete teams in baseball right now.

Fun to watch teams in the AL East fold late in the year 2 years in a row.

Maybe the Yankees can get Bobby V for next season too!

A Sox/Reds World Series would be great. Fun to see the former Reds in the White Sox starting lineup.

Three games gives them a little breathing room and puts a ton of pressure on the Tigers. The Tigers pretty much have to win the weekend series against the Sox.

It would be great to go into Motown up 4 games. A Sox sweep could almost end this thing, or at least force the Tigers to take no less than 3 of 4 at the Cell week after next. I don't want to get ahead of myself here, but the Sox could really put some immense pressure between them and the Tigers these next 4 games.

And they might need it because they still have 6 games left with the Royals

It is a good situation right now for the Sox, but the Tigers still worry me. They are more than capable of making up this deficit and taking the division.
