Good lord, I can't be that much older than you. Or can I? Ugh. Time is catching up with me. I'm in my late 30s.

I think The Cars are another one of the most underrated bands of all time.

They are, but not as much as Talking Heads.

I don't know about the Heads being underrated. They were probably the most critically acclaimed group of the late 70s/early 80s. 77/More Songs About Buildings and Food/Fear of Music/Remain in Light/Little Creatures were all huge critical successes.

I love the Heads.

Cars are also genius. "Dangerous Type," "Moving in Stereo," "Let's Go," "Candy O," "You're All I've Got Tonight"--all fantastic songs.

If you like them, check out the Fountains of Wayne, particularly a CD like Welcome Interstate Managers. It's kind of a combination between the Cars and Cheap Trick/Material Issue.

How 'bout this Midge? Course it's fruitless, I probably like 20 other Cars songs just as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVcPd7ogl0w

Did you like songs led by Benjamin Orr or Ric Ocasek better? Or did it not matter?

Yeah, didn't matter for me. I just love their sound. Brilliant.

I don't believe so.

When I was a teenager, I was a gopher for music acts in Rosemont the Horizon and Theater. CCR revisited came through and since they were really fucking cheap I had to pick them up at the airport. It was Gunner from CCR, Easton and whoever was doing the Fogerty impression in my car. The whole ride from O'Hare to Rosemont, Easton keeps reading a letter from a fan and insisting she was going to come to the show and kill him. After the show was done, I had to drive them and a few groupies back to the hotel at which point he brought the letter back out and insisted she was going to kill him at the hotel. As they were getting out, Gunner told him to shut the fuck up and ripped up the letter.

I love early Prince--Dirty Mind and Controversy. Heavy Stevie Wonder influence, by the way.

When You Were Mine is my all-time favorite Prince song.

A few years back I rolled into 115 Bourbon Street after a Sox game and there was a sign up front that said, "Tonight Tiffany!" I figured Tiffany was some South side hair metal band that played Poison and Enuff Z'nuff covers. But no, it was really Tiffany.

You know who had some outstanding singles? Blondie. Exhibit A, Dreamin': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N1iwQxiHrs

The drummer kills it on this song.

Pretty sure that link is the Outfield Midge.

Dammit, here's the Blondie. Give it a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOnv8lXDzhg

Good stuff!

In many circles, Blondie is credited with starting the rap movement if I'm not mistaken.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken. But Clem Burke was a hell of a drummer. Keith Moon disciple.

Pretty sure you're right about that JORR. I really don't know the whole story. Perhaps she had the first rap song MTV ever played with Rapture, or was the first female to be credited with a rap song?

I have no idea, just remember reading about it here and there.

It may have been the first white girl rap that was popular, something on the pop charts. Remember this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16kh-AP4OCU

It's really similar, isn't it?

It doesn't officially drop until Tuesday, but I love it, it was worth the wait.
Flesh And Bone is about as perfect an anthem there is.

I think a new Dylan album comes out this week. This was recorded 50 years ago. Wrap your head around that. Includes very early versions of "It's a Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall" and "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright."

Nice Sam. One of the few I don't have. I am listening to his new one right now. Pretty good IMO.
