I'd say Spiegs is more Harry than Jurko. I've heard Spiegs actually say "how cool is that?" That was one of Harry's old nasally gimmick lines.

Jurko was a loveable buffoon. Very Boers-ish but without the homoerotic undertone and disdain for the human population.
MJH was a great show from about 2001-2004. It was okay after that and by the time ESPN dropped Mac it had probably run its course.

This new show has Mac in a comfort zone. He is surrounded by sycophants and yes men. That's fine if you can do that. You're a radio host and not a politician so having a constant circle jerk is not a huge deal. No one is asking you to solve the world's problems. And what does Mac have left to prove? When he started MJH he was in the 9th circle of Hell. A complete outcast doing weekend updates at Bristol. Then, he returned like MacArthur to the Philippines and re-established himself as the top dog in Chicago sports radio. Now, the guy is 50+ with a couple kids in college. I don't blame him for letting up and working with a partner that is easy to get along with and not bringing his A-game everyday. The paycheck is there.

The Finfer-Mac pairing sounds good so far.

Finfer seems like he has much more "natural" chemistry with Mac than Spiegel does. No need for extensive "flight time" with these two--at least as far as I can detect to this point.

I'm guessing Mac figured he gets along better with Finfer and would have more fun doing the show with him than Larry or Jason. He probably finally got a little fed up with the Boers and Bernstien-ization of the station. Why should a B&B producer (or asshat Larry) get airtime over one of his guys?

Quick mention of Finfer by Mac at 12:35 PM. Basically stated he is good on the radio (listens to his weekend shifts) and has earned the right to fill in for Mac or Spiegs if they are off.

But he does kind of deserve it..Finfer is knows his sports and is a good listen..he followed Mac to the new job and should be rewarded..I think Beardown is right..Ma needed a legit reason to confront Mitch with for Finfer to jump ahead of Mitchs' boys Larry and Goff.
