Hub is smart on the NFL. However, because he's unlikable and states his opinions as facts too often, I think people tend to remember him saying that turned out to be incorrect.

Like a lot of what you said, but are you really comparing Hub to Rick Telander? Really? If Hub's a dolt then Rick Telander doesn't have a functioning brain cell.

I'm not sure how to properly apportion stupidity here, but I feel comfortable in saying that Hub is among the most stupefyingly ignorant and consistently wrongheaded voices in Chicago media. My point was simply that Telander gets raked over the coals for saying shit a lot less dumb than "Jeff Ireland really knows how to build a winning football team."

Telander is on the Score's permanent shit list for being gifted the afternoon drive slot over veteran hosts, running a terrible operation that pretty much tanked J. Hood's career, and then quitting in the middle of a show on top of all that. You'd think Dan and Terry would ease up on Telander, considering his departure moved their own show from middays to PM drive, where they lost to Mac in every book but still cemented themselves as the station's power brokers.

I'll add that I think a lot of these problems can be solved by giving Bernstein a new partner. I love Terry, but he's completely checked out at this point and has basically left Dan free to sit around and sniff his own farts for months at a time. A strong partner who could challenge him (read: Mac) would be terrific radio.

This has been my opinion for years. Bernstein would never admit it though, because it's "worked" for 10+ years now (and he has been carrying Terry for most of it, like Hughes carried Santo). I find him funnier when he's away from Terry. It takes a couple days but when Terry is on vacation it's 2 different shows between Monday and Friday.

Mac is winning the war by a large margin.

The Mac/Finfer pairing was a outta this world success while Goff's jump in total air time during the 1-6 show was as flat and uninspiring as the Ultimate Warriors run in WCW.

I find it hard to believe Finfer was good, unless the Mackeyfish has stepped in and is personally grooming him. I can't hear their show now that school has started again and I don't care that much to podcast it. However, I did hear the bit where Bernsie questioned if the message boards still exist. What a pathetic attempt to act like we, the civilians caught amidst the crossfire of this war, are irrelevant. We're the clockwork behind the facade of sports radio. We make this bitch run and tick. He came here himself and engaged us a few years ago until Tall Midget posed one too many uncomfortable questions to Bernstein.

And Goff has been cowed by Mac's power move, if it was that. But I am thinking the moment on air where Mac confronted Goff about being a "relevant idiot" and the constant "DaMaNaa" drops has become the Score's Gulf of Tonkin Incident. It was the evidence Mac took to Mitch to get permission to commence hostilities. The 38th parallel has been crossed.

Zizzou,
Enough about your Civil War comparisons. It's Mac's show and I think he should decide who is co-hosting. Kind of like NBC forcing Johnny to have Bob Barker as a co-host instead of Ed.

Nowhere in particular to put this, but I came across this in The Atlantic, in an article titled "Why Bill Clinton's Speeches Succeed":

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc ... ed/262032/
Quote:
Because he treats listeners as if they are smart.

That is the significance of "They want us to think" and "The strongest argument is" and "The arithmetic says one of three things must happen" and even "Now listen to me here, this is important." He is showing that he understands the many layers of logic and evidence and positioning and emotion that go into political discussion -- and, more important, he takes for granted that listeners can too.

The main other place you hear discussion based on the same assumption that people of any background, education level, or funny-sounding accent can understand sophisticated back-and-forth of argument and counter-claim is sports-talk radio. ("I understand the concern about Strasburg's arm. But ... ") You hear insults and disagreements and put-downs on sports-talk discussions. You rarely hear the kind of deliberate condescension, the unconcealable effort as if talking to slow learners, of many political "authorities" addressing the unwashed.

The author clearly doesn't listen to this show!

Bill Clinton is a very effective speaker.

He'd be tremendous working with Ed O'Bradovich.

The point I didn't bother to append the first time around is that if this is indeed The Thinking Fan's Show, why is the intelligence of the listener never respected?

(whistle)

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of god and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land
And

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
Ow, oh no, no, no, no, no

Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of god or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

"We practice selective annihilation of mayors and
Government officials for example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum as popular war advantage
Peace is closer" **

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war
No, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?

If anything, it's The Thinking Host's (not Hosts') Show.
