Question for the group:

Is it beneficial to draft a quarterback and wide receiver from the same team?

Discussed this with a few GM's in my league the other day (not the super secret league) and opinions varied. On one hand, there is a belief you benefit "double" from every TD, reception, yardage gained from the QB/WR combo. Others believed that it was unwise to draft the combo, assuming that another available WR on an opposing team may be recording higher numbers while your QB racks up his stats separately. A third viewpoint is that it doesn't matter at all since a WR is still a WR, regardless of whether he's on the same team as your QB or not.

I won my 20 team league last season with Brady-Welker so there's your answer.

It's only good to do this with about 5-6 teams...

I agree wiht Doug. If you have an elite combo who gets points every week like Brady-Gronk or Staff-Calvin then its a no brainer, but if you're talking about Cutler-Marshall or Rapesburger-Wallace then you are gambling cause there are gonna be weeks where they do nothing.

But why does the number of teams in the league matter?

Let's hypothetically say that all teams in a 6-team league have a same-team QB-#1 WR combo. Why is following this drafting strategy more beneficial in that league situation than, say, a 12-team league?

There are probably 5-6 Elite QB-WR same-team-combos that are just as good if not better than an Elite QB and WR from different teams.

For example,Some folks would rather have Eli and Victor, than say Drew Brees and Dwayne Bowe....but rather have Brees and Bowe over say Matt Ryan and Roddy White.

I see. So as Chus mentioned above, it simply boils down to picking the best player available at each position. In other words, there is no benefit to purposely matching QB's to their real-life #1 WR in every instance?

One other negative I can think of that they would both share the same bye week which could hurt you.

If i can get one of the elite combos I will do this. Last year this ended up fucking me as I had Vick and Jackson, in the past I have done Manning/Wayne, this year I went with Rodgers/Jennings. You are basically relying on that team that you choose the combo from, if they have a shitty game, you are screwed.

Yeah, I think if you are targeting a WR that is 5-6 spots lower that the best available while drafting just to get a QB-WR/TE combo is a bad idea.

I don't purposely do it, but this year it happened with Eli and Victor and Brady and Gronk in two different leagues.

Just draft Joe Webb. He can play QB and WR.
