What confuses me is that we sure have one helluva gang problem in Chicago despite the mothers of these children's insistence that they are not / were not/ have no ties to being in a gang.

I am similarly confused as to why its so hard for you to understand why the Mother of a person who was just killed doesnt go on tv and rip her son to shreds and say he was a gang banging piece of garbage.

I found the mother's response interesting in relation to both sides of this discussion...

In an interview outside her residence in the Altgeld Gardens public housing complex, Coleman's mother, Robin Russell, wouldn't discuss whether her son belonged to the Gangster Disciples.

"His music was his music," she said. "I didn't get into what he did ... when he left my house. I tried to be there, tried to teach my son the right way. But you can't hold no child's hand every step of the way. So what he did in the streets I don't know about. What he raps about, I don't know about. ... Whatever's going on out there, I don't know."

I guess she has plausible deniability then. Sounds like some world class parenting going on there. No comments from the father?

I gotta call a "who ya crappin" on the mom here.... I mean, while she's grieving and all WHY GOD WHY?!?! and looking to blame everyone but herself in the name of "justice' --- there has to come a point where you're at least somewhat cognizant that your son is going on youtube and putting out music videos whose choruses tout that he's BDK or black disciples killaz, i presume.

idk how much street smarts the kid had, but he evidently had some sort of a prolonged online/offline beef with the black disciples people, cuz chief keef doesn't exactly make it a secret that he's all about the 300 and that's not regarding gerard butler and/or sparta here. i mean seriously, there comes a point where mom has to take off her blinders and realize that her son was some sort of fucked in the head to go around calling out an entire gang, let alone a set... i have no idea how protected the kid thought he was, but obviously he must of thought that he was untouchable or at least backed up enough to the point where he could run around calling attention to himself (he IS a rapper, after all. that's intrinsic to the whole being-a-rapper thing, take it from a guy whose dumbass has sought attention for things he created before he was ready.... once you're like YEP, I'M A RAPPER it's all about inward attention)

AHEM. the kid's calling attention to himself and touting that he's against a whole damn gang, and like.... you reap what you sow, you know? everyone's got their hustle and evidently this kid thought rapping was his way up instead of exclusively working on the streets, but i mean.... shit.... obviously his talent wasn't enough to carry him if he had to try and find a niche as being an anti-BD rapper... i'm gonna have to look up jojo and chief keef cuz i wanna see what these kids are doing.... i give the chief credit for being honest and straightforward with his tweet laughing at the dead kid hours after his death.... he even gave out a bullshit "i got hacked" excuse and left it up.... hey if you're gonna rap about being hard midaswell live up to it somewhat.

incidentally, am i the only one who looks at the latter guy and thinks about the soundbite re: the winner of today's showcase?

dude goes way out of his way to emphasize the front-sag look.... which is just.... yeeeargh. anyone familiar with professor griff's theory on puff daddy and how he aspired to make the sag fashionable because he wanted asscrack to be the new cleavage? yikes. anyways, i gotta disclaim that this kid has way more money than me, way more bitches than me, is a way better rapper than me, and clearly god chose him for a reason so everyone go and check out the "finally rich" mixtape cuz holy shit it's about time, dude had to wait almost 18 years to get his. that's a long time.

oh shit, i just invested some time getting into the musical worlds of jojo and chief keef. the latter is way more polished and you can see why dude's signed... he's got his look and he's got a pretty good voice and he's definitely not going to leave anybody behind in terms of his lyricism.... he's got catchy hooks that work well in the contemporary "hip hop sound" which to me sounds like an aural manifestation of a cesspool of materialism. i heard the top-10 on 92.3 a month or two ago and seriously, all the songs are basically like I'M PAID I'M RICH I GOT THINGS HOLY FUCKBALLS I HAVE A LOT OF SEX, IN FACT I COULD FUCK YOUR GIRLFRIEND AND/OR KILL YOU IF I SO DESIRE. RESPECT ME.

obviously, i'm a suburban screwball who in terms of his rap education "grew up" backpacker, so this style doesn't really "do it" for me.... i mean, from my outsider perspective i don't get the whole thing where there's a whole bunch of shirtless guys bobbin around staring at the camera menacingly whilst reciting these school-of-ludacris straightforward hooks usually with a hearty amount of fingerguns firing, or sometimes the actual guns..... and this brings me to the recently slain jojo. here's the aforementioned "diss song" that was quoted in the article in the OP, it's called "3hunnaK" which references being a 300K or a 300 killer, which he clarifies by tossing in the term BDK which i presume is a black disciple killer. my researching this topic resulted in my discovering a video called "3hunna" by chief keef, which featured him at a house party with a bunch of his guys doing their thing with 90% finger-guns.... so lil jojo decided to "respond" to that video by doing his version of it (it's not really a satire, i'd say, as i think he's doing the same exact thing as CK did in 300, just with slightly less production value and presumably-real-guns all over the video)

if this kid was on the virge of getting signed, holy shit, i wonder what he was getting signed for? rapping? joking aside i guess i can see it cuz the only pre-requisite for being a top-40 pop-hopper/rapper these days is just being a good looking kid who's got the intestinal fortitude to bounce around shirtless while hammering home easily-understandable hooks that speak to one's wealth/status/promiscuity/reputation. the promiscuity is a big thing i reckon, seeing as one of the groups chief keef is in is called "slutty boyz" complete with a SB logo that hearkens to the warner brothers' WB shield. anyways, without further adieu here's the song that prolly helped to get jojo killed...

jojo - 3hunnaK

seriously, a bigtime WYC to jojo's mom cuz like, seriously, i know times are tough and nowadays with the proliferation of "social' media in our lives and younger kids being more intrinsically intertwined with youtube/twitter/facebook/etc there has to be some increasing level of disconnect between old-fashioned-reality and newschool-social-media.... but comeon. i mean, it can't be a total surprise that your kid was running around with some people doing shit like this.... i mean, the kid has a bunch of music videos where he's shirtless and rapping thuggy shit and this music video has him and all of his friends toting guns and talking about how deadly they are... i doubt he woke up on e day fell off of the toilet and had a vision of this video in his head, this is something that had to be there... and as it's been mentioned in the thread i do understand it's a situation like "what's the mother supposed to say?!!?" but still like, if she honestly thought her kid was just "playing rap" and just letting off some steam via his creative juices flowing, well, she's gotta be in denial as whatever she is totally transcends being merely naive. i gotta go look up the video where he got in a fight with chief keef's friend cuz this stuff is interesting.... like OKC i can't say i'm increasingly more and more into rap, however i see this as some sort of sociology or even cultural anthropology where i'm watching these videos and trying to learn about a sub/culture that i'm evidently far more ignorant of than i ever thought i was.

can someone here explain to me what's up with the rampant shirtlessness in these videos? is it merely sex-symbolism and meant to show the virility of the rappers/friends, or do people go shirtless in videos to show off their tattoos which probably have some sort of affiliations/symbols/messages that they're intending to deliver via the video? honestly i just wanna be like "holy shit, rap is pretty gay nowadays" but i'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt before i paint with a broad brush. again, i have to remember that all these kids are far more successful/rich/pullin-bitches than i am at the moment. i'd add '...than i ever will be' however i'm still allowing myself one more chance at age 32 to whip my body into 8s-or-higher-wanna-fuck-me-on-sight shape and figuring out how to communicate with people en masse and taking a legitimate chance at the glory. one of my favorite musicians, bill drummond of the KLF, officially started his music career with a press release at age 33 1/3, so I like to think that i've still got another year to finally get somewhere before i give it up forever and consider my sporadic musical forays as some dumb shit i did in my youth.

AHHH YEAH IT FEELS GOOD TO COME ON HERE AND BABBLE AGAIN. I MISSED IT. i promise that i won't embark on another massive supertroll regarding any and all celebrity/ish stalkers in the future. shomer shabbos, y'all! hope you enjoyed that video.... 20 years from now we're gonna see posters on the wall by mcdonalds saying "IF JOJO WAS ALIVE LIL WAYNE WOULD BE WORKING THE DRIVE THRU AT WENDYS' much like the poster i saw saying that with a picture of TUPAC the other day. c'est la vie? que sera sera.
