Had him doing sound checks this afternoon. Never seen Bruce live, but hearing him play and then going into a monologue that I expect him to give tonight about just some poor Jersey boy....really made me think commercial sell out.

Needed to practice the supposed off the cuff speech???

Also a little rehearsal with the cards on 'Which song do you want to hear?".....

Ever since I heard Bruce say he is not a sports fan at all, kinda felt the fake cup runneth over. Kinda like when Sam Malone said he didnt care about sports and told the world he was bald.

Other nuggets

-Driving by the seniors home on Belmont and see the elder couple coming out with their Springsteen T's on. OK, kinda cool, but only kinda.

-Stopped at CHASE, which is right next to the Wine Shop and lotsa MILF's picking up wine for the big night.

-Helicopters have been here since 2 PM like it is the LA riots

-Parking rates, are WAY UP!!!!! $40+ everywhere.

-I think it is gonna rain on this bitch. Which will be real interesting to see what happens then $$$$

-Set up in the front yard. Start the show!

He does now. That new album along with his last 2 or 3 have been shitty, schlock fests.

The Boss?

Keep it.

The first three Springsteen albums are undeniable masterpieces. Boy, he made a lot of crap, though. Loooooootta crap.

I agree.

I would say that everything after Tunnel Of Love and excluding most of Devils n' Dust is pretty mediocre to bad. I did enjoy The Rising quite a bit but Magic and Wrecking Ball were terrible.

Enjoy some of his stuff, but never thought he was the 'jeanus' some played him to be. He made some good party music, great!

Now I feel like he needs a message in every hit? or at least a car ad?

"New York City Serenade" is party music?

Springsteen was seen as a genius because he synthesized Dylanesque lyricism with sprawling, rollicking musical arrangements that Dylan's bands never really pulled off. Then he cut his hair, worked out, and started pretending he was a mechanic from Middletown. All was lost. Go listen to The Wild, The Innocent, And The E Street Shuffle and ask why it all couldn't be this good.

Early Springsteen doesn't even LOOK like the same guy:

pfft.... go figure that Wrigley's coveted "yuppie beer garden" demographic is partial to this geezer (said with a distinctly british inflection a la danny dyer)... why is he called the boss?

would it be a bigger deal if bon jovi played there? that's a band that would be perfect for "the wrigley experience" IMO. at the peak of the first iteration of the chorus, i reckon you could open your windows and hear the whole damn neighborhood crooning WHOAAAAAAAAAAA LIVING ON A PRAYER.

Because he collected the pay for gigs and distributed it to the E Street Band. Not really a compelling story, but there you go.

I'm listening to "Jungleland" now. What a song.

Once it came on my car radio and my girlfriend asked, "Does this song ever end?"

If you ever had the chance to see him live pre-Born in the USA, you would know why he was the Boss. I find that album and everything since unlistenable.

The man has done wonderful things for the art of xylophone playing, and Wrigley is a great venue for a show- but I would rather watch pigeons looking for food on the outfield grass in the late innings of a day game than watch him projectile vomit his awful and cliched music at thousands of people who paid for exactly that.

"The poets down here don't write nothin' at all
They just stand back and let it all be"

This may explain the absence of Boilermaker Rick.

Glockenspiel!

Listening to the Hammersmith Odeon '75 concert right now. They were never gonna be that good again. Could've stopped then. Would've missed out on "Hungry Heart" and "Badlands," but think of all the terrible stuff we would've missed, too. Did they get the concert in last night?
