I understand that. Right now, most of my property taxes to the school is going to...Kishwaukee College. Now, that's moronic.

I agree.

What kind of idiotic name is Kishwaukee?

First thing I'd do is eliminate tenure. Everyone works on 2-3 year contracts.

I know I wouldn't leave it in the hands of an often biased principal.

I cannot tell you the times my children have had what I consider I bad teacher but another parent considers fantastic and vice versa. I know I had some great teachers in my time but I never ran across one who took a particular interest in me or me in them. I just don't know how you fairly evaluate teachers.

There has to be an evaluation system. As with all systems it won't be completely fair.

I've been fortunate enough where all of my kids teachers have been good to great. I do recall having many teachers in school where I was confident (probably wrong) that I knew more about the subject than they did. Young Makaveli even challenged one of the teachers to a test. That being said I also had several teachers that took great interest in me and others that I was fond of after leaving their class and maturing a little bit.

:D

And yes to the tenure elimination. Gotta make it retroactive though, as the bad salaries are on the eldest teachers.

Start cutting the amount of administrators, "consultants" and their pay as well.

Holy shit yes.

I made the mistake of looking at the salary report for administrators.

The lowest on there is 94,000.

THERE WE GO! Yeah, their pay is outrageous, as well as their retirement.

There are so many admins and most or at least a lot of them do nothing and add nothing to the process. Overpaid and underworked.

"Consultants" are another joke as well. Usually retired teachers who come back to double dip, don't do the job they are supposed to and piss a lot of teachers off. Or the actual hiring of a consulting firm (usually at 6 figures plus) to come in and "solve" a problem or set policy or whatever. They usually don't do either. But they are someones friend or whatnot and it's also a good way to diffuse responsibility for a problem or action.

administration is a huge part of the problem and money drain. Very true.

Yep! Cut the entire management team! Think of the money that would be saved!

Many administrators do a shitload of work & some are bad at their jobs, just like every other single workplace out there.

You're dilusional if you think (most) administrator cuts don't negatively impact students.

I just don't think teachers should get paid 36K and work 60-80 hours a week and administration works about the same hours and gets paid 70k. that's all.

So the bosses shouldn't be paid more than the employees?

36k versus 70k? No, not that much. I don't think anybody should get paid above $100k though, so that's a minority opinion.

I'm not saying that there isn't some fat at the top, just like almost every other business, but you can't simply look at a salary and decide that position isn't necessary.

I was looking more at the number of administrators, not the salary.

This is getting hilarious. Every argument is including a shot at some other job and an ensuing board member from or with sympathy for that profession

how far will it go? Will it reach the lazy janitors?

see, I know good prinicpals. But they don't work any harder or for longer hours than my wife. So I don't know why the salary scale is SO tilted. I understand some tilt. Just not that much tilt.

So far weve had

A lawyer calling out the entire trading industry
Teacher calling out non teachers
Self Employed admonishing those with bosses
Teachers marginilized by former teachers.
Principals getting beatings from all sides
Administrators going after other administrators

All of us are lazy. YET, as TM pointed out, we are all overworked and underpaid.

This thing is tearing us apart by bringing us together

My grandfather was an operating engineer for the Board of Education for about fifty years. He would get livid when someone called him a janitor.

I do concur that the union leader is an orca.

How is she still in power after her speech debacle out west?

Done.

Every single teacher can be let go, regardless of experience, with 2 unsatisfactory evaluations. That happened last year.

Next idea?

The main difference between principal pay and teacher pay?

Principals negotiate their own contract, especially in smaller districts. There is no collectively-bargained agreement in any district that I know of. Many times when a principal is being sought, the board says "let's just pay the principal.......hey what is that other district next to us paying? Let's pay 5% more than that to look more desirable".

I bet that would motivate parents to do a better fucking job at preparing kids for school, and we wouldn't have the fucking problems we have now with kids taking an education for granted.

Want to make High School students actually try on the PSAE's? Make it a graduation requirement to obtain a certain score.
