Many administrators do a shitload of work & some are bad at their jobs, just like every other single workplace out there.

You're dilusional if you think (most) administrator cuts don't negatively impact students.

This is getting hilarious. Every argument is including a shot at some other job and an ensuing board member from or with sympathy for that profession

how far will it go? Will it reach the lazy janitors?

My grandfather was an operating engineer for the Board of Education for about fifty years. He would get livid when someone called him a janitor.

I do concur that the union leader is an orca.

How is she still in power after her speech debacle out west?

The main difference between principal pay and teacher pay?

Principals negotiate their own contract, especially in smaller districts. There is no collectively-bargained agreement in any district that I know of. Many times when a principal is being sought, the board says "let's just pay the principal.......hey what is that other district next to us paying? Let's pay 5% more than that to look more desirable".

I bet that would motivate parents to do a better fucking job at preparing kids for school, and we wouldn't have the fucking problems we have now with kids taking an education for granted.

Want to make High School students actually try on the PSAE's? Make it a graduation requirement to obtain a certain score.

What drives me nuts is the lock step unions want us to have with the CPS teachers. Sorry, I'm not making even close to what they're making; and I can't strike (per our charter.) The whole system is messed up. Everyone can see that. But, Rahm is trying to change it.....wait, you mean in change I have to actually do my job or be fired?

No, that's not going to work, Mr. Mayor! Get the head of our Union on the line! Wait, what's her education background.....let's see....oh, former drug rehabilitation councilor....uh huh.....wait, didn't she admit she smoked a lot of weed while in college herself? That's right......ok......went to Barbados to become a med student.....must of not been able to get into a medical school in the United States.....dropped out of that program, God how much did she suck at that to not make it as a pot smoking med student in Barbados!?!?!?!.....THEN she became a chemistry teacher! (Glad teaching was in the top three of career choices at least.)

The real tragedy is that this doesn't affect Chicago's Catholic schools, and so Ten Foot Midget is still teaching kids to write in one-sentence paragraphs.

Yeah she is ugly for sure... I mean, kind of unusually ugly and fat. If she was just sort of ugly or sort of fat, I don't think people on this board would care.

And I should know because I am really fat, but I'm not really that ugly. But even being close to what Lewis is dealing with, I don't really want to run for the head of a union, much less a union that will get significant press attention if we have to go on strike. People are going to ignore the points I make and instead focus on the ugly and fat parts (at least for sports message boards.)

Who in their right mind would hire her to be the face of their organization??? Like it or not, appearance matters, especially in a high level position. But, her demeanor & attitude are terrible.

I believe the City has offered the Teachers a 16% raise over the next 4 years. 4% each year is about double the increases that most companies have given the last few years. I say let them strike & hire new Teachers. There are certainly many who are unemployed & CPS could use some new blood.

Management always always wins labor disputes.

THere was a sign by one of the teachers saying they don't allow bullies in the schools.

So I guess Karen Lewis isn't allowed in schools? She is the biggest bully of them all.

And all those parents sticking up for the teachers of course they are going to if their name is in the paper. They say anything bad their kids grades will be affected. The union thugs will flunk their kids in retaliation.

Biggest argument yet for putting your kids in charter schools, private schools or homeschooling.

Just have the teachers be honest. They are just like any other person they only care about themselves.

The union will win. Kids, parents and taxpayers will lose again.

How is Karen Lewis "a bully?"

There have been anonymous polls of CPS parents conducted on the issues surrounding this labor dispute. They typically show that support for CTU far outnumbers support for Emanuel and his cronies.

Bullshit. I can name several current instances in three separate districts where this is not the case.

Maybe it's not referred to as "tenure" anymore, but there are still mechanisms in place to make it decidedly difficult to release under-performing teachers.

Next condescension?

Effective last year or starting this year? I know of one particular case which officially began last year and the teacher continues to be on the job this year, involving several poor evaluations which are all being appealed/challenged.

You're wrong. Unless the districts you're referring to are private or not in Illinois, you're wrong. (The parts I bolded for you are especially funny considering how wrong you are).

"Tenure" is gone. Seniority is only considered as a "tiebreaker" when a district has multiple employees that have identical evaluation scores and they have to decide between them. So there is no tenure.

Next mistake?

Every person has the right to due process. It was in effect last year.

Semantics.

The fact remains that ineffective/lazy teachers are NOT able to be fired at any time, even with multiple poor evaluations.

Call it due process, but best case scenario, that teacher stays on the job for at least another year or two.

If anyone ever finds themselves unsure about a situation or still on the fence, as it were. I would suggest waiting a few days and searching the message board for the thoughts of a cubbiegirlshamus. The answer will become clear as day...

No, it's not even semantics at all. You're still wrong. Each time you re-post it, you will be wrong. There is no tenure anymore. Two bad evaluations (which can be in the same school year) and you are up for dismissal. I'd say that's probably not too far off from many professions.

I'm not calling that due process. The due process part is the "appeals" that you were referring to. That has nothing to do with tenure.

Nice job addressing semantics again. I look forward to your next one.

Tenure has been replaced by the popular "2 strikes and you're eligible for potential firing sometime within the few years" system.

A good start, but a far cry from being fired "at any time" for poor performance.
