T-Bone, what do you consider the quintessential Bob Dylan album, and why?

That is a tough one and everyone who likes Dylan has their own opinion. People can point to half a dozen
albums that could define a large part of his career. I guess if you had to pin me down it would be Blood On
The Tracks. There are only two songs on there that are slightly weaker than the others and the rest are
really strong. Great lyrics surround the album. Tangled Up In Blue, Simple Twist of Fate, Idiot Wind, and
Shelter From The Storm are likely the best off that album which only has 10 tracks.

In my opinion that was the beginning of a favorite part of his writing and recording. That album was dropped
in 1975. The next year he released the double album The Basement Tapes in which he plays with The Band
on a number of very cool songs and in 1977 he releases Desire which is an excellent album. That is my two
cents on the subject. Do you have one that stands out FF? For live albums his Bootleg Series Volume #4
concert at "Royal Albert Hall" is the best by far. He plays the first set acoustically and the crowd loves it,
then at a break he plugs in the electric guitar and almost gets booed off stage even though his performance
is brilliant.

P.S. Planning on picking up his newest album Tempest tonight.

I agree, for me, it has to be Blood on the Tracks. I think he's at his best on that cd when it comes to songwriting. The emotion he puts into every song is palpable, not an easy feat for a studio album. He still shows off his knack for story telling in songs like Lilly, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts. I think Idiot Wind perfectly encapsulates what the entire cd is about, the duality of falling in and out of love, and the cathartic reasons why he needed to write an album like Blood on the Tracks. Bob Dylan really doesnt like to seem like vulnerable in any situation from what I've seen and read. He had to take that shield down in order to write Blood. Im not sure its his most important or most influential cd, actually Im quite certain it isnt, but I do believe it's his best.

Price be damned...I am a fan of the Dominican Macanudo that is readily available at any of your local Binny's humidors.

No. I've never had an illegal drug...besides black market Viagra of course.

I wouldn't even know where to get, what would it take, a couple pounds of marijuana.

As far as influential cds by Dylan you have to look at his earliest stuff. I would toss Blonde On Blonde up near the top.
Take a look at the listing of tracks on that one..... Crazy

BOB DYLAN 'Blonde on Blonde' (1966)
The track list:

1. "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35"

2. "Pledging My Time"

3. "Visions of Johanna"

4. "One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)"

5. "I Want You"

6. "Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again"

7. "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat"

8. "Just Like a Woman"

9. "Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine"

10. "Temporary Like Achilles"

11. "Absolutely Sweet Marie"

12. "4th Time Around"

13. "Obviously 5 Believers"

14. "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands"

I assumed he quit because Cutler now had weapons to work with. If he doesnt come back today, then I have no idea. Can you send the private jet out to NY and check on him?

I figured it was tough enough getting any kind of Dylan conversation going, I didn't want to hipster it up too much
Do you have any opinions to toss into the ring beni?

The dude types up a compelling, thought out Dylan critique (by request), and you nitpick for him calling it a cd?

:|

Tough crowd.
