The predictions are just very accurate. The Sox should have shut him down. He might get through this season. But because of the wear, he will likely break down early next season. I'll look back on this prediction and say I told you so about this too.

So, you were wrong about him being hurt this season, so you just extended your prediction until next season... You going to just keep pushing back his injury prediction until he's actually injured and claim you were right all along?

Get things straight once in a while...I said that Peavy (not sale) would go on the DL at some point (the season is not over) and that Sale would either A) get hurt or B) wear down and not perform at the same level as he had in the first half of the season. He already was shut down for a start when he had the dead arm I predicted and now his level of performance is most definitely not at the same level and dominating wins have turned into run of the mill losses. I have actually added to the predictions though, with the prediction of an early season injury next year, due to the over-use of sale a year after throwing just 71 innings and never throwing more than 138 in a year prior to this one. I did predict that Peavy and Sale would have an ERA over a run higher in the last couple months of the season and it looks like that will be an accurate one too.

The Sox will not win their division.

Now Sale will start in what has to be the biggest start of his career vs Verlander. Sale (as I predicted) has worn down and in his last 5 starts (3 of them losses) has an ERA over 4 (4.61) and is averaging almost a hit per inning (30 1/3 IP vs 29 hits). In addition, his walks are up. I don't rule out Sale coming up with a great effort, but I think he will still lose and predict he will struggle in the start that follows this one, as he uses what little gas is left in the tank. After only pitching 71 innings last season, he is at 169 already. Having never gone more than 138 previously in a season, this is no shock. With Peavy and Sale wearing down and no longer the dominant pitchers they were early in the season, the Tigers may well still win the division by the 5 games I predicted. It's been fun to watch.

analyze the numbers a little more deeply

this looks more like a home v. away splits for Sale than being worn down. He came home in his last start and gave up 1 run that should have been called an out at the plate

I'm feeling very confident of a division title right now. This game had a feel of getting a monkey off their backs and I think they view the Royals the same way.

I don't think so. Somebody said the Sox could wrap it up if they won today, and I said that wasn't the case. Nor was the Sox season over if the Tigers had won today.

Last time the White Sox won the division:

- Freddy Garcia played for another team
- Dewayne Wise was here and contributing well
- The Sox beat the Tigers in a previously-postponed late season Monday game
- The Bears beat the Colts in Week 1
- It was an election year

Ladies and gentlemen...history is repeating itself.

I like the 6 games against Cleveland and honestly Tampa doesn't worry me either.

I'm more concerned about this week's games against KS and LA, although we have played the Angels well this year. I just don't like the west coast trip this late in the year.
