More convenient, more streamlined, less commercials

The only exception is a breaking news story, which is rare if you're talking sports or comedy.

I like Adam Corolla's podcast and Jay Mohr's. Gonna give Mark Maron a shot now.

All three have free apps available on Iphone or Android. Check em out.

I've been considering starting Corollas. It's not just about cars, right?

For once, I completely agree with you. Today is a special day. Let's hug.

Marc Maron's podcast is a little rough at times. Like Jay Mohr explained on a past show, Maron's podcast is about 60% comedy and 40% personal shit. Like, really depressing personal shit. But it is also one of the most popular on the internet, so perhaps you may enjoy it.

If you haven't already listened, I would highly recommend The Crab Feast(another Fake Mustache joint) or Alec Baldwin's Here's the Thing.

Yeah but so am I, so I connect.

The Henry Rollins one recently was pretty good.

Ive only listened to a couple so far, but Im confident saying No.

On the app there are like 5 different categories. One is his regular show and then there is a shorter Car podcast. The regular show is good.

I highly recommend the Seth MacFarlane interview.

Yeah, that sounds good to me. 100% comedy is hard to do.

The only issue with podcasts is a lot of carry over. Same guys go on Corolla, Maron and Mohr all in the same month. Not sure I need to hear "How you got in the business" 3 different times

But that's also a plus for podcasts because I can choose to listen to a different one and Im not beholden to any time.

Ive heard Crab feast referenced a lot. Whats that about? Its not about cooking, then?

I tried Joe Rogan's. It was ok. He's a little too "Likes to fight guy" in my book but Ill give him another shot.

It's a show hosted by comedians Ryan Sickler and Jay Larson, both of whom hail from Baltimore, where "crab feasts" are commonplace. They explained during one podcast that they needed a name for the show and The Crab Feast was the best the could come up with. Really solid content.

Yeah, those guys are funny. The name is misleading though and probably stops some people from listening

I tried giving Maron a listen but that dude has too many issues. He brings guests on to give himself a therapy session. Got old after a while. Like a mentioned before I pay $10/month for the Dahl podcasts. You get Dahl, Kevin Matthews, and Dahl's kid & Brendon. That's like 3+ hours per day. You can pick and choose. If I have to fly out to California for a couple of days I can download like 16 hours of stuff to cover me.

But yes, the concept of podcasts is cool, but you need to find something that works for you.

There are so many free options though...

Yeah, I don't really see the point in paying anything for radio or podcast subscriptions.

I use the Stitcher app which is a way to create a station of the podcasts you listen to and automatically have them uploaded when you turn on the app.
My lists are:
Comedy:
Adam Carolla - good but rather redundant at times (he has the problem of telling the same stories over and over)
Marc Maron's WTF- I like the ones where he is interviewing comedians that he has had issues with. The podcasts with musicians or people he idolizes are rather brutal (very fanboyish)
Doug Loves Movies - Right now, this is probably my favorite one because he has a group of guests that really are funny together
Sports
B.S. report: I think the NFL podcasts are good, but if someone from Boston/New York is on to talk about Sox/Yanks/Celts/Pats I pass.
Grantland: I like the "Men in Blazers" podcast about the EPL & the Basketball Jones podcast

I've been thinking of picking up the Mohr podcast from what people say here it sounds good.

If the SCORE went subscription I'd probably pay for that too. I enjoy listening to the guys I know and have listened to for years. Not so much random DB's I've never heard of. $10/month is nothing if you get enjoyment out of it.

In addition to Carolla's, I like one called "How Did This Get Made." A couple of guys from The League (Paul Scheer and Jason Manzoukas) are the main contributors, along with Scheer's wife, and they take a crappy movie and rip it apart. The inspiration was Nic Cage's "Wicker Man."

I also love Stephen Tobolowsky's podcast. There's no schedule for it, but there's a huge archive of his stuff. He's a great storyteller. Highly recommend that one, too.

Both of the above are free.

These things are largely relationship based. Can you imagine B&B hitting it big on the national podcast scene? A smarmy assbag and a senile old man who makes funny noises? No. But we know them and like them. Hell, I've heard Terry on radio since the late 80s.

--------

Most of these podcasts are kind of show-business based. I don't give a shit about that stuff. I haven't seen a movie or watched a sit-com in years. I do have the Jack Benny Show podcast on my iPod though.

Actually, I think Bernstein would be perfect for a solo podcast. Its a medium that lends itself to dwelling on one topic and digging deep into it. That's right up his alley, if you will.

I mean the show as currently constructed. I'm sure Bersny could do it, but I don't think I'd listen to it.

Welcome to the DAN BERNSTEIN podcast. Today we continue our 20 part special on the Penn State Scandal....

Image

He talks about nothing (hampers, pants, drinking, women, drinking) and its fucking HILARIOUS

He also has meetups with fans after his stand up shows for the "Larry Miller Drinking Society"

He opens the show with

Welcome to This week in Larry Miller. Im Larry Miller, but then again, arent we all?

If you heard them on Stern, you would know how big their penis is, and if they have ever orgied or smoked hash oil.

The Joe Rogan Experience/Ice House Chronicles aren't too bad. They get fairly monotonous at times, but it's usually entertaining and laid back. Joey Diaz has a million stories, all of them hilarious.

The only thing I don't like about Rogan's show is what seems like a constant stream of "bad trip" stories from years of drug use. I'm sure some of the stories are funny, but after the tenth reference of being "fucked up" I start to lose interest.

I was intrigued by your comment, so I Googled the guy, but my cursory glance didn't really turn up anything interesting. Do tell a fact or 2 about his story.

His website is pretty cool. When you hover the mouse over him, it shows a skeleton where you can click for videos and stuff. His bio wasn't helpful about telling an interesting story, so I'm intrigued to know what it is.
