The OS is working 100%. Maps is working, it's just bad. Passbook is an app, not an OS.

So I agree, the OS should work before being released. And it does. Like it has for me, for the last several weeks.

The OS has been out for 24 hours worldwide and immediately some people are brushing it aside, saying it sucks. Bucky is right; the OS is working. One app is "bad".

That's one app, Passbook. And the method I posted fixes it. Annoying? Yes. A reason to not download the new OS? No. IMO.

Chris, if you dont work for Apple why do you care if IMU uses the new OS?

I don't care if HE uses it. Just think it was wrong for him to tell others not to.

Well isnt that what happens when someone has a bad experience with something?

If I just had a terrible meal at a restaurant I'm going to steer everyone I know away. Maybe my meal was the outlier but that isnt the point, I got bad food and everyone is going to hear about it. That isnt wrong, it is human nature.

Well, I personally posted a bad review. I hate the Maps app. So again, that's not it. I just thought your review was dumb and was misguiding people.

No, you disagreed with my opinion so you thought it was dumb. Lipid disagrees with things I say all the time...so if he believes my points were valid, I'm going to say that they were probably pretty damn valid. Just because you think something is insignificant doesn't mean people with more objective views of the product will also find it insignificant.

Well, you didn't even give a reason why at first which I found annoying too. It blows. Avoid it. Just thought that was bad. Wasn't even a review.

I never said you weren't allowed to have an opinion. I just wanted to point out how misguided it was. You told people to not even download the OS, because of a bad app and an error on another. Apple deserves egg on their face. Lots of it. But to come out and say "it blows, avoid it" isn't painting a full picture. It wasn't helpful, it was just annoying.

And while you eventually got in to the issues you had with it, none of them justified your comment to tell others not to download it. The wifi thing isn't widespread. The Maps app works and will work for most people, despite some obvious shortcomings. The Passbook app, even when it works, is hardly going to be very useful until more apps get in there. And the App Store works. And Google Maps is available on the browser... just add a link to your homepage.

Your issues were valid to an extent. But not really. Again, just my opinion. People can wait a few weeks to download the next release if they want. But as I said, I have been using it for weeks and I love it. Has everything iOS5 has and lots more (except Google Maps, of course).

To change the direction of the thread...

The do not disturb phone functionality is awesome. If someone calls, you can hit a button and it will auto-send a text saying you'll call them back. Can also set a reminder if you want to remember to call them back if you don't answer. Big fan of the Do Not Disturb night time options too. Can set it to not do audible alerts for a certain time period. IE, I've had it set so that alerts don't go off from 11-7. Nice to not hear even the vibrations at night.

A really small feature I love is synced notifications. IE, if I get a notification for a Facebook message in Notification center and I close it out on my iphone, it also closes it out on my iPad. Small thing, but saves a few extra clicks.

I like the VIP mailbox, where you can set VIPs and their emails go to a special folder.

Siri got a boost too. Can answer things like "did the Bears win," "Who do the Bears play" and "what is Starlin Castro's batting average?" Similar enhancements for movies and restaurants too.

Another small update, but I like shared tabs in Safari. Have a tab open on the iPad, and have access to open it on the iPhone. Nice when you have a Home Depot run for example, and you pulled up a product page on the iPad at home, but need to pull it up at the store on your iPhone. Saves having to bookmark or email the link.

Other small things, like the new white color scheme for the phone. Also love that you don't need to enter a password to update apps you already have... and when you download one, it doesn't shut the App Store and take you to the homescreen. It just starts downloading in the background.

Anyhow, I like iOS6. Some good updates.

Get a real iphone, the iphone5 and your problems are solved.

I've waited out all the weak, overrated, underpowered, shitty iphones until they finally made one that I felt was up to speed so I'm pretty excited to toss aside my blackberry keyboard phone tomorrow when the 5 is delivered to my doorstep.

At some point iPhone haters are going to realize that it is the best smartphone on the market overall.

Even though every single one of his co-workers thanked him for his opinion?

Almost any phone would look like the greatest thing ever next to one of those.

Quite the contrary, actually.

While it is true that Samsung remains Apple's biggest competitor and threat to its market share, the iPhone is consistently ranked among most pundits as the "best smartphone", both business and commercial.

Speaking from my company's perspective, having a smartphone app that allows our global employees to communicate with our central office database on a moment's notice is critical. Apple allows us that option, Android does not. That's just one example.

Your company just chose to develop their app on the iPhone. They could have easily done the same thing on the android.

Incorrect. There are inherent flaws in Android's security capabailities that wouldn't allow us to build the app.

I think there are a few phones right now that are competitive and maybe better in some areas than the iPhone, but I do think the market will see 2 real all around competitors for the first time in the new Razr HD and the Lumia 920. Those two phones look (from the specs) to be really really legit.

Do you know what the specifics were, off hand? Sounds like it could be more fear-based than anything, but curious to what the reasons were/are.

I'll openly admit I am not one of the developers, but the team reported that security flaws (and concerns) such as encoding shortcomings and secure access points made Android a higher risk of losing compliance data in comparison to Apple. While acknowledging that Apple isn't perfect, it was decided over the course of a year that Apple's format and securities offered the least amount of risk.

iOS6 is on 15% on Apple devices 24 hours after being downloaded. It's safe, guys. Go ahead and download it!
