Completely depends on how you plan on using your phone. I have a 16GB 4S and will have to purposely try to fill the thing up. Of course, I mainly listen to podcasts, which I just delete after listening.

I have always gotten the lowest and never filled it up either. Only thing IMO that requires more storage is if you plan on storing a ridiculous amount of music, or lots of videos.

Do you download music to it? I want to turn it into my music libary so I can plug it into the USB port in my car.

Other than that, I plan to take videos and pictures with it, get a bunch of apps and that's really about it besides web surfing, texting and phone calls.


Ugie, have you found an app where you can keep track of your golf scores/stats? Although not sure I will use it since I'm planning on getting the Sky Caddie for christmas and I think you can do all that on that.

I lost my IPhone 3GS 16g and replaced it with an 8g just to avoid reupping on my contract since I was waiting for the 5. I'm not even remotely closing to filling up an 8g. I use an iPod though for working out and just stream Pandora/Spotify if I want music on my phone.

My phone right now only has about 300 songs. I prefer to listen to Pandora or other internet radio as opposed to purchasing music. Most of my iPhone's memory is occupied by apps, photos, and videos.

There are a ton of golf applications available, but I have found GolfLogix to be the best (in my opinion). GPS, score tracker, keeps stats.

NIKE Golf is actually coming out with an app that comes with some kind of adapter that you affix to your golf club, and the iPhone app tells you exactly where you hit the ball on the clubface, angle of impact, etc.

Crazy stuff.

Is there any disadvantage to putting music on the phone as opposed to an Ipod? I don't own an ipod, it seems as redundant as my HD video camera with these phones nowadays.

what do you think of the sky caddie? I've been reading up on it and it looks pretty amazing. Tracks how far you hit each shot, gives you a complete topographical green view from your pov as your standing on it. I'm waiting to see if the next model will swing the club for you too.

Just download an App that allows you to upload all of your music somewhere, and you can just stream it to your phone.

I use Google Play. You can upload 20,000 songs for free. I don't think the official google play app is on the iPhone, but there are 3rd party apps that allow you to access your Google Play accounts.

I was just tired of adding and deleting music, and having to create space constantly because I had too much music.

If you're gonna go with SkyCaddie, I would definitely just purchase a SkyCaddie unit as opposed to using the iPhone app. They certainly make a solid product, though.

I would reserve 6GB for apps, data, etc. If you think you will have more than 10GB of music, then go bigger. This is all just a guess of course.

If I bought a bunch of music on itunes is it really easy to put that music on the iphone? Can it be done wirelessly or do you plug the iphone into my macbook?

I will not be ordering the iPhone 5 (as I just got the 4S), but I can safely say I enjoy the Apple product substantially more than my Android phone.

How do you guys think the iPhone 5 compares to Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTV EVO 4G LTE?

Hardware is a wash I would bet.

I'm a current owner of Galaxy SIII 32GB and I fucking love it. ICS is the goods and Jelly Bean should be on the way in November. I love the widgets, widgets are cool.


Would have bought the Galaxy Nexus but the hardware wasn't as good.

To me, the best 3 phones that are coming out from now until end of year are Razr HD, Lumia 920 and iPhone 5. Lot of people would put the S III in there too, but it's been out awhile.

If I was in the market for a new one, I'd be picking from those three. Feature function they are all very much in line, with a few exceptions. Screen size will be a big thing, so depends how big you want there. iPhone has the smallest screen, with the others being significantly bigger. iPhone is also the lightest if that matters. Cameras should all be in line, and all are 4G. The iPhone also will get a little bit less battery life than the others.

Pricing wise, I think they will all be $199 (still waiting for 100% confirmation on Lumia and Razr HD), except the III is only $99.


I'll tell you what would drive my decision most, if it were me... and that would be what OS my other devices are on. If you have an Android tablet, go Android. If you like Windows, go Lumia and if you are on Apple, go iPhone. Just makes things like only having to purchase an app once, easier. And especially simple and easy to sync data across all of them. That's the biggest advantage for me having devices all on the same family. Not to say you can't make it work with separate OS's on different devices, it's just easier when they are all in the same family.

One other thing about the III that is awesome, is it has a removeable battery. Huge if you travel a lot. Don't have to but a juice-case then.

I don't have any other devices besides a Windows desktop computer so I'm not really tied to or heavily invested in a particular OS. Well, I do have a Creative Zen mp3 player that seems like it's about to crap out on me after three or four years of use. A friend of mine suggested the Razr but I'm with Sprint and it doesn't look like they offer that or the Lumia that Chris mentioned. That same friend's brother just got an S III and said it's awesome, and all the reviews I've read and watched have said the same -- ditto for the one's I've seen for the HTC and iPhone 5, too.

One thing I like about the iPhone is that it's smaller than the S III and the HTC. I don't think size would be an issue when I'm holding any of them in my hand but it would likely be a little easier to carry the smaller one around in my pocket.




I've never had a smart phone before so I'm sure I'll be pretty damn impressed by the performance of any of them since I don't have a frame of reference. Are there apps for the iPhone that allow you to listen to AM and/or FM radio? Can you only listen to FM radio on the S III or can you also listen to AM?

Through Sprint the 16MB version of each is $199.

I suppose what else I'd want to know is what are some useful things I could do with the Galaxy S III that I couldn't do with the iPhone and vice versa.

I'll say this, you won't be disappointed with the Galaxy S III. It's right in line with all of the phones I listed (many would argue it's better). The battery life on it is far and away the best. One big thing it does have that the iPhone doesn't for example, is what's called NFC or near-field communication. Meaning, you can "bump" another phone with NFC and share pictures, playlists, videos, etc. Personally not a huge feature that I would use today, but it will be HUGE in the future with NFC becomes a payment gateway of sorts.

If you are interested in wireless charging, the Razr HD will have that and I think the Lumia will too.

Otherwise to your question, there isn't too much that one phone can do that the others can't. The apps level the playing field since the hardware is all very in line.


As for AM/FM, at this stage you can get just about any station via an app (ESPN, CBS, etc). Many of them have there own, or there are apps that give you hundreds of options. Some phones do have built in FM, but I'm not sure if any of the phones here have that (I know the iPhone does not).

You know, thinking about your comment in regards to your first smartphone, I think you're right that you will be blown away no matter what. It might just come down to heading to the store and seeing which one fits your hand best, feels the best and is the size you want.

NFC is something that I'm very happy with as my wife has the same phone. WiFi Direct (not sure if Iphone5 has it) is cool as well and being able to beam to my Samsung TV's is pretty cools as well. Lots of options to share info/files/pictures etc with other people. Camera is really good, too. Love the Burst Shot, it will take a burst of 10+ shots and pic the best quality one or give you the choice.

The battery life is pretty amazing, standby time is super long and actual screen on/talk time is pretty good as well. I can go almost an entire day with regular use. I do wish the screen was a bit brighter though. It is a big phone as well, the screen is huge but the bezel is razor thin as is the thickness....very comfortable to hold in the hand.

My previous phone was a Blackberry Tour 9650, with that blasted trackball. Loved the phone....a shame that RIM was 1 product cycle behind.

Good points. You can definitely stream video with all the phones to TVs via apps, but not as easily as with Samsung TV and the S III. And you should be able to accomplish the sharing of photos on any of the devices via bluetooth and apps or Photostream on the iPhone. But Samsung makes it the easiest, and most simple.

I do love the photoburst, forgot about that. I wish I had that.

Should show you just how close everything is. All in the same ballpark.

It seems the hardware is now pretty much equal, give or take, for all manufacturers even when it comes to mid-level Android phones. Everyone has a dual core processor of some sort and 1GB+ of ram. International versions of the SIII and HTC OneX have quads but for some reason they don't get along well with North American LTE networks. Oh well.

Speaking strictly as an upgrade from the 3G, it's fucking amazing.

Battery life seems pretty great so far. Gave it extensive use at the Bears game yesterday and was still above 40% when I go home. It's lightning fast, no problems with app store yet. Couldn't be happier at this point.
