I can imagine but I doubt it. I avoid Hormel. I get the Niman Ranch stuff a lot but don't like it as much. I've been getting organic meat more often but it's a little much for our budget. Not sure what I feed the kids otherwise. Our Jewel started carrying grass fed beef and have wanted to try it. I haven't looked at the lable anymore than that though.

Passed on 400 tons of carrots last month that were ultimately fed to cattle in a southern state.

They had small amounts of plastic in them. That's some of the better stuff.

So what do you eat or where do you buy from? I think a lot in the food industry needs to be fixed, but would have no idea where to start or how. I like the populartiy of farmers markets and I guess that's a start. Don't really know for sure if they are good though.

Why do you feel that way?

I can't see where some small amounts of plastic would be an issue- those that do not pass through would remain undissolved in one of the stomachs, and you likely eat little stomach (hay bales often contain small clippings of plastic twine on/in them). Chemicals that would transfer into the muscle would be of more concern.

Grass-fed beef is considered healthier because the number of cattle pastured per farm is usually smaller, thus there is less disease pressure like often is present at larger feedlots, where corn is the feed of choice. Less disease pressure means less preventative antibiotics and other medicines, etc.

No shit? I'd like to hear about that. From what I read, true or not, grass is really what livestock should be eating. The grain based feed fattens them and produces a product we are more accustomed to, but isn't really good for them.

That depends on how you define superior.

And the carrots went to grass fed beef. And K you are correct. Trace amounts of plastic are not really a problem for cattle.
