It reminds me of the Cubs fans who used to give me a hard time saying the 2006 Cardinals were the worst WS champion. Right, like I'm going to enjoy my team winning a WS less because of their regular season record.

Then I'm one of the few Cubs fans who doesn't feel that way. The core of that Cardinals team won 100 games each in 2004 and 2005 plus two divisions, two NLCSs, and a pennant, then underachieved during the '06 regular season. Of course, the rosters weren't perfectly identical, but they built up enough competitive capital, so to speak, with their prior two seasons that their stumbling during the year can be more or less forgiven. Had they put up two 86-win seasons with one LDS loss, sure, worst team ever, but I can't say that.

The '06 narrative isn't quite correct.... a bunch of guys were hurt by the end of the year, and they had scrapheap guys like Jeff Weaver and Anthony Reyes making playoff starts. They just got hot at the right time, similar to last year's team.
