I would hope that a rookie manager with no experience is leaning on his pitching coach to help him make the calls. I also would hope that being the Manager, he has the final say if he really disagrees.

I don't think he has the confidence yet to veto Coop. So I think if Coop says lets go with grosso then Robin says ok.

It was the 4th inning!

Do you really think Robin or Coop were thinking of bringing in one of their (supposedly) best setup guys in the 4th fucking inning?! Thornton got in there early as it was.

They should have been. As JORR pointed out that was a critical part of the game no matter what inning.

Every pitcher was guilty last night. There is nothing Coop or Ventura can do. If they send Peavy and Sale out on regular rest and they suck, then people would be pissed they didn't rest them with a deep staff. It's not like Peavy and Sale are proven workhorses the last few years. There have to be extremely careful with Sale because of his problems in April and the fact he is young. Peavy has a history of injuries in the recent past. People are complaining based on after the fact performances. The coaches have also made a lot of good moves throughout the year with pitching decisions.

This is 100% on the players. The offense is putting a ton of pressure on the pitchers by not scoring enough. Last night was a rare recent exception, but frankly, they should have scored a lot more.

And as you said RFDC, then Ventura would have been bitched at for that too. That game was still destined to be a loss regardless of if they used Veal, Omogrosso, Humber, Myers, or Reed in that 4th inning.

Not the case....just accurate and insightful. Lets see....Sale's late start -gave up 4 runs in just 4 innings in a loss. Tonight 4 runs in 6 innings in probably another loss. The predictions are just very accurate. The Sox should have shut him down. He might get through this season. But because of the wear, he will likely break down early next season. I'll look back on this prediction and say I told you so about this too.

Get things straight once in a while...I said that Peavy (not sale) would go on the DL at some point (the season is not over) and that Sale would either A) get hurt or B) wear down and not perform at the same level as he had in the first half of the season. He already was shut down for a start when he had the dead arm I predicted and now his level of performance is most definitely not at the same level and dominating wins have turned into run of the mill losses. I have actually added to the predictions though, with the prediction of an early season injury next year, due to the over-use of sale a year after throwing just 71 innings and never throwing more than 138 in a year prior to this one. I did predict that Peavy and Sale would have an ERA over a run higher in the last couple months of the season and it looks like that will be an accurate one too.

The Sox will not win their division.[/quote]

Everything seems correct here....
Sale more than a full run higher in ERA over the past 2 months, with a 6 game stretch of a 4.61 ERA before facing a Mauer-less Twinkies team. We'll have to see how long he goes next year before he goes on the DL. 190 plus innings after a season where he threw just 71 innings....bad idea.
Peavy-not the pitcher he was early on as predicted with an ERA WELL over a full run higher and basically reduced to being just good enough to lose as often as win....or more often.
Sox will not win their division......check

The only question now, is whether the Tigers will win by the 5 games I had predicted they would win by. If not, it will only be because of the Tigers poor play keeping the Sox in it longer than they should have been in the race.

This has been fun to watch.

I Hope that check mark is in pencil you horsefucker, because the Sox are a mere 1 game out of first with 7 games left to play.

This has been fun to watch, he said that correctly. I have really enjoyed the crazy ride. It's nice having the Sox play for something in September especially since my Cubbies never had a chance. I'd much prefer a great divisional race in Chicago than two 100 loss teams.

With Peavy having spent over a month on the DL in each of the last 5 seasons and Sale having thrown just 71 innings last season and never over 138 in a year, they really would have been wise to go with a 6 man rotation as they had last season for a while. But with Danks going down, Humber staring the season so poorly and then Floyd being down for a while, it would have been tough to do. But had all the pitchers been healthy, that would have been probably the best way to handle things.

Yes, I agree. I like them resting their pitchers because of those facts. I always defer to the managers because they see these guys behind the scenes and ask them how they feel. It's very easy for fans to blame Ventura when the other pitchers go out and pitch like crap. We don't have the same info Ventura does.

I certainly hope the Cubs lose over 100. The last 2 games vs the Rockies were crucial to getting the overall #2 pick in the draft. They need to lose the last game in the series as well to pretty well clinch that spot. Hell, they had to trade dempster, shut down Sammy and trade Maholm to ensure a top spot in the draft and even with all they did, Houston gets the top overall pick. I am fine with the way Cubs management has handled this season. The Sox will have spent a lot more money, drawn over 1 million fewer fans and wind up with nothing to show for anything, but a much worse draft selection. With Peavy, Youkilis, A.J. and Liriano (okay-thats no big loss) all probably lost in the off-season, this is the team going in the wrong direction....

That may be, and lots of his posts are crap. But frankly, his last two on this board have decent logic in them. So I took them at face value and responded as such. Besides, you guys are calling him out, so of course he'll show up.

Two different things here.

The Cubs are finally making long term decisions regardless of the backlash. I am pleased with it and expect they will build a long term winner. I expect better things starting 2015 and have said so in other threads. I am willing to wait.

I never worry about the Sox' future. Kenny has a knack for putting together a competitive team. He never sits still even when his hands are tied. He is willing to take risks. He is willing to mortgage the future for the now. As a Cubs fan, I would take Kenny any day. At least when you lose with him, he comes out and admits mistakes, shows he is as pissed as the fans, and you know damn well he did all he could.

Don't need the information Ventura gets. I know how many innings Peavy and Sale had pitched over the past few seasons. I knew (and predicted accurately) they would each show a decline in performance over the last 2 months of the season, based on the way they were being used. Besides, any manager that listens to his pitchers, rather than basing his decisions on the pitchers history of use and past injury problems, is making a huge mistake. Especially when you have a dope like Peavy that is rarely honest with his coaches/manager.

Steve is bragging that he predicted that Sale and Peavy wouldn't keep up Cy Young type stats over the whole season?

Will you also brag about your predictions that the sun will rise in the east, and set in the west?

The only prediction that was stepping out a bit, was that the Tigers would win by 5 games. Now that that looks unlikely, he is distancing himself from it, and making excuses in the process.

TOOL.

It must be very terrible to be a Cubs fan, when your best ammunition is attendance jokes at the expense of the Chicago White Sox.

I strongly support the Chicago White Sox over the next four (4) games, because they are playing Tampa Bay. Here are my least favorite teams:

1. Boston Red Sox
2. Tampa Bay Devil Rays
3. Angels of Anaheim

Go White Sox!

As much as I despise the Yankees, I'm never really upset when they win. It's like the Universe is somehow in proper balance when those douchebags are champions.

This is looking more and more like a reality, T's Peeps.

good call...

No-really poor call. Here is reality:

Jake Peavy 11-12 and in his last 9 games he has gone 55 2/3 innings and surrendered 27 earned runs, compiling an ERA just under 4.50 Not quite Cy young numbers....
Adam Dunn .209/41/94 Once again, his strikeout total (211) is higher than his batting average.
Paul Konerko .299/25/72 Since the All-Star game his RBI numbers have been as impressive as that awful mustache he finally shaved off. MVP?

The one guy that does deserve the most credit for the season he has compiled for the Sox, is Alex Rios. He, not Dunn should be the comeback player of the year if either might be given consideration for any post-season award.
