Hopefully the Rockies sweep. The Rockies probably hope the Cubs sweep.

Once Shark got shut down and the minor league season ended I have payed little attention to them other than checking to make sure they are in position to draft 2nd. You know all the college prospects...whats up with this cat from Arkansas that could go #2?

I think he still has that leg injury. Plus Svuem seems to be on a Mather kick for some crazy ass reason.

Ryne Stanek. He had a good summer pitching for USA baseball. If he stays healthy he'll be considered for 1-1. The rising star is Sean Manaea. He's a left handed starter from Indiana St who dominated the Cape Cod league where he was consistently hitting 98. I still think Karsten Whitson will have a big year at Florida. Austin Meadows and Clint Frazier (my man crush on him is BIG) are a couple high school outfielders who will go at the top of the draft.

It doesn't really matter if the Cubs pick 2 or 3. They are going to get a good player either way.

Stanek is a stud and defintely projects to be a front end of the rotation guy. Shouldn't take him long to get there either.

The good thing for both Colorado and the Cubs is that Houston will almost surely not stand in the way of the top few players. They will take a high school guy they can low ball a little just like this year.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Houston had a plan with the draft and trades to upgrade the depth of the minor leagues. They wanted quantity and did a real good job getting a lot of talent into the organization. Now they can look to start adding impact players and guys like Appel, Manaea, Stanek or Whitson would definitely fit that bill.

Okay, we've seen enough of Joe Mather. He should be cut this morning after another boneheaded baserunning blunder. For those who missed it, he tried tagging from 2nd to 3rd (despite Listach's frantic waves for him to stay at 2nd) with one out and Vitters at 3rd. Vitters should have scored easily on the fly out to the warning track, but Mather was nailed at 3rd and the run was waved off. Vitters also should be disciplined for not running as fast as he could to home.

Unbelievably, this is the second time in two weeks the Cubs have been burned by this same play.

They had to trade Dempster and Maholm and sit Samardzjia for the final month to ensure themselves of 100 plus losses, yet they have to lose this last game vs the Rockies to pretty well ensure they get the #2 pick. With the games left vs the Astros, there is still a bit of danger of losing out on it though, so perhaps a few days off for Castro, Rizzo and Soriano is in order....

I don't see any tangible difference in having the #2 or #3 pick. This seems to be the narrative that some people have been pushing. Oh well, anything to make watching a brutal team bearable I suppose.

Unless a team advances to the playoffs, what difference does it make that they won a few more games? The Pirates were very good in the first 4 months of the season and then fell apart. Now, all they have to show for 2012 is a lousy draft position. Same for the White Sox. I would rather have an importand building block for the future and the #2 overall pick should land the Cubs just that.

Rizzo hit another one today. The Rockies have hit the shit out of Volstad though which must be shocking to the baseball world.
